I had the honey shrimp (like coconut shrimp other places), wife had BBQ beef (basically teriyaki beef), and 8ct pork lumpia. The shrimp was a delight and almost identical to a favorite dish of mine from another place by which I used to live. This shrimp will have me returning many times over. The BBQ beef is a smokier/more savory teriyaki but very similar profile. The lumpia is not what I would call lumpia as I was raised knowing Philipino lumpia as true lumpia. This felt more like a egg roll to me; cabbage and veggies in a wonton wrapper with a hint of pork inside. I was deeply unimpressed with the lumpia as it was not expecting what it was and I happen to dislike egg rolls.

The atmosphere was very reggae/carribean/islander vibe and was real nice. It’s what I was expecting and it fit. The place is very clean, well lit, and the menu was easily understood and great prices. The restroom was very clean and up-to-date.

Edit: just because this isn’t what I think of when I want lumpia, doesn’t mean this doesn’t classify as lumpia.

Beautiful interior! Clean! Professional, kind and attentive staff! Nice looking menu with sooo many mouth watering choices! I wanted to try everything as it all looked good! I chose #3 Hawaiian BBQ Mix and #9 Mochiko Chicken, with sides of white rice, brocoli, salad and Mac. The portions were enormous and should have given a 5 star rating for food on that alone but the #3 meats, while good, were a bit to chared, slightly over cooked and a bit chewy. Also, the Mac i thought was bland. But I’ll be back as I was overall impressed and want to try many more menu items! Itsa a quick, nice, clean, friendly place with a good atmosphere!

Tasty, simple takeaway style Hawaiian food. Had the honey shrimp, so creamy and delicious. The Mac salad is one of the few I can eat out (no mustard, have allergy) and reminds me of the salad from south Florida; so good. Had a spam musabi, too; good price, great at hand with some sriracha. Banana lumpia was sweet, crispy, oily and happy. Also hit that with the Sriracha because I respect myself; not disappointed. Overall, great counter to-go food for a good price, and a nice little lunch date with my special person. Will be here again.

Enjoyed our first time here. Good local food. Chicken katsu plate with fries and Mac salad and Large meat plate (low carb option). Yah, weird choice on the fries, but was ono for fries! Kalbi, Teri beef and BBQ chicken were tasty along with the 3 sunny side eggs – yum! Katsu was crunchy with a good sauce to go with it. Will definitely have the katsu again and want to try the mochiko chicken next time. Friendly folks and comfortable place to sit and eat. Added to our “regular” place to grind!

Being a local from Hawaii, I am always critical of Hawaiian food places on the mainland. Kona’s was pretty good. Had the chicken katsu curry with mac and rice. Mac was a little firm for my taste but properly mayonnaisey. Katsu was perfectly crispy and light. Curry sauce was authentic Japanese curry flavor. I will definitely come here again and try some of the other plates. I like that on the plates you can choose 2 from 6 sides: white rice, mac, salad, broccoli, fries, brown rice.

Stopped by because we were at a nearby store. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were quite large. We ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice with Spam and the Hawiian BBQ Mix plate. Both were very flavorful and large portions. The staff was very kind.

They just opened and it was a great experience. Much better than the chain Hawaiian place over at the mall. We got chicken katsu, kalua pork, spam musubi, malasadas, and ube cheesecake and loved ever bite! It’s as good, if not better than Da Tiki Hut and cheaper. Our 5 year old loved it too so that is a huge plus.

This place is so good! The food is delicious and the portions are huge for the prices. Definitely a good deal especially compared to other Tacoma area restaurants. I hope they open more locations later, including Gig Harbor, as we don’t have anything comparable there.

The wife and I decided to check out Kona Hawaiian Barbecue on a whim and we were not disappointed. I tried the spicy beef. The flavor of excellent, not to salty or to sweet, it has found that perfect middle ground.

If you’re interested in delicious food, good portions, and affordable prices, this is the place. They are geared towards takeout. Perhaps it’ll find a place in our weekly rotation?

Ordered Beef Teriyaki w Mac Salad & Rice (mini). BBQ Mix w Mac Salad & Rice. The portion was smaller than I expected. Only 1 scoop of rice. Not bad for my first try & review. Will order the larger size portions next time.
