ghee dosa 5/5- best dosa I’ve ever had
viyajawai chicken biryani 5/5- best biryani we’ve had also! huge portion, flavor bomb, saucey
coastal masala shrimp 5/5- came out first and we devoured it so fast
paratha 5/5- I prefer this over naan
kerala chicken fry 3/5- wasn’t my fave
Oh my, this was absolutely delicious!!! I like both the butter chicken and the pioneer curry. The sauces were very full of flavor and each one amazing in its own way. Now, the highlight of the night for me was the Parotta, which I had for the first time. It was well buttered, flaky in its softness, warm and delicious, with perfect texture.
In my (yes, Western) mind, Parotta is the Indian croissant. This will be the first time of many ordering it.
Kolapasi is located in the corner that was once Medianoche, a colorful Cuban joint. I loved that they have integrated some of Medianoche’s, tropical lush murals, colors, and motifs.
Service was great! Thank you, Kolapasi
The staff were warm, attentive, and went above and beyond to make our meal memorable. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely welcomed. The ambiance added to the charm — cozy, inviting, and just right for a relaxed yet refined dining experience.
Highly recommend Kolapasi to anyone looking for amazing food and heartfelt hospitality. Can’t wait to return!
I was also intrigued by the egg mandala dosa, and it didn’t disappoint. The addition of egg created a unique and delicious twist on the classic, adding a layer of richness and a slightly different texture. It’s definitely a must-try for dosa enthusiasts looking for something a little different.
For a spicy kick, the shrimp chilly was excellent. The shrimp were cooked perfectly and coated in a vibrant, flavorful sauce with a noticeable but not overwhelming heat. It was a great contrast to the more savory dosa dishes.
To wash it all down, the simple soda lime was incredibly refreshing – a perfect palate cleanser.
Overall, Kolapasi offers a fantastic South Indian dining experience. The quality of the ingredients shines through in each dish, and the service was friendly and efficient. If you’re looking for a taste of South India in [mention location if you know it – e.g., San Francisco], Kolapasi is definitely worth a visit. I highly recommend trying their diverse menu, including the unique egg mandala dosa and the flavorful shrimp chilly.
Clear sign of maximizing margins on an item that customers least expect to pay a lot for.
I do like the food and restaurant owners but I suggest pricing your Parothas appropriately.
We had:
Mutton kulambu
Alapi fish curry
Chili chicken
Kerala veg kurma
Parotta
Chapati
The mutton was very tender / fresh / high quality. The fish curry was delicately poached. The chapati was fresh. The woman who helped us (maybe the owner?) was very nice and hospitable.
I’m interested in trying the Kerala chicken fry and dosa.
