Don’t miss their cocktails! Definitely give them a try.
Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area!
The butter that comes with the bread is made in-house with honey and some type of chili pepper ️. It tasted so good!
The prickly pear vinaigrette salad dressing also tasted great to us. Salad we order was fresh
We would have loved to have roasted oysters, but they were out. We settled with raw oysters instead, which was delicious. The sauce that comes with it was on the sour side to us
The rest of the entrees were all seafood, and we were not disappointed
Our server was very friendly and was happy to serve us. Whenever we said the food was good, she got very excited and would say, “Yay!” Very cute
We will definitely stop by again when we visit the area in the future
It was heavily seafood focused. It had a wine list (with vintages listed). The menu looked good. So we made a reservation and went tonight.
Service by our server was good. We got our caesar salads (as they came with the meal) but it was just ok. We set the plates off to the side. They stayed there for quite some time.
My wife noticed two plates had been brought to our general dining area but had been there for 10 minutes. Wauting to be served to someine. Just sitting there.
The next thing you know, a different staff person puts our appetizers in front of us and then asked if we were done the salads. Of course we were. But maybe he did not realize they had been sitting there for over 20 minutes.
The grilled oysters involved cheese and were meant to be eaten while still gooey. But it had re-solidified. Why, because the dish was now room temperature. The crab cake appetizer was fine but lacked basic seasoning. Fortunately there was salt and pepper on the table.
Moving on, while still eating the appetizers, our actual server drops our entrees to us explaining that she wanted us to get our food before a large party placed their orders (which I do appreciate, but hold them appropriately in the kitchen for 5 minutes while we finish the appetizers please).
Initially the entrees were seemingly great. The miso glazed black cod was expertly cooked but too sweet. And then the fish stew.
On paper the fish stew was an interpretation of a french bouilliabaise. Scallops, salmon, halibut, shrimp and more. Very well executed grilled crostini. And perfectly diced tiny potatoes. And andouille. But the chanterelle mushrooms listed on the menu were .missing, instead replaced with tiny beans (not on the menu). The shrimp was overcooked but all of the other seafood was very good, especially the scallops.
But man alive the dish was almost inedible due to the amount of salt in the broth. The broth is what makes the dish. You want to to soak all of it up with the crostini, but no way I could do that. I tasted each element in the dish separately and they were all fine. It wad the broth that was massively oversalted.
So.
Would we have raised these issues (all of them) to the restaurant staff in real time, sure, but i would still be at the dinner waiting still.
I did tell our server, prefixing it with an ‘I do not want anything at all, but you should know this’ and she apologized and said she would bring it to the attention of the management.
The thing is, I could consider this a fluke. Every restaurant can have a table on a given night when things go off the rails. It happens. But the table right behind us did complain in real time about one of the dishes because they were served a dish that contained pork in some form. Which was not on the menu. And they could not eat pork. But it took them 30 minutes to get the fixed dish served to them.
So two different tables with problems.
Busy night, sure. Blame the ‘big party’? Sure. But acknowledge your limits and don’t take on more than you can handle.
At the end, we were leaving and approaching the fro t door, the manager was there, a said not a word.
Your mileage may vary, but we experienced a pretty off night there.
I brought a date here one time, I ordered a nice wine before my meal, anticipating a relaxing evening of fine dining, imagine my surprise when after returning from washing my hands in the restroom, my date told me she was uncomfortable and asked if we could leave. I paid the tab and downed my wine, a little disappointed I didn’t get to try the food. I never found out if someone said something to her, or what the case was, but that’s overall the impression I get too.
I’ve returned a few other times. Somehow good seafood in a port town is hard to come by. It’s not a place for locals, I think. ‘Overpriced’ doesn’t begin to cover it. ‘Tone-deaf’ seems more apt. It has a good wine selection, but that’s about it. Your service experience can be a very mixed reception. I don’t recommend this or its sister location to people when they ask me for a good dining experience.
TLDR: Your money can be spent better elsewhere.
First of all—Burgundy deserves a raise, a trophy, and possibly her own fan club. The service was next-level amazing: attentive, fun, and totally made the night.
Now let’s talk FOOD. I had the fresh halibut, my husband had the stuffed halibut, and my sister ordered the grilled salmon. Every bite was chef’s kiss ✨ Delicious, perfectly cooked, zero notes.
I was stuffed… but still ordered the crème brûlée to go because self-control is overrated and it was absolutely worth it.
And listen—don’t judge me—but I half-jokingly asked for some tartar sauce. They didn’t have any… so Chuck casually ran next door to Hook & Line Pub to get some. I mean??? THAT is elite service. Obviously I had to eat it
Amazing food, incredible staff, and service that goes way above and beyond. If you haven’t been to Kokopelli’s yet, what are you even doing?
