The Verdict: Koji — Solid Value, But Don’t Expect a Sushi Pilgrimage

If you’re looking for a revolutionary culinary experience, Koji isn’t it. But if you’re looking for a reliable, high-volume meal that hits the spot without emptying your wallet, it’s a winner.

Here is the breakdown of the experience:

The Surprising Wins
• The “Freshness” Factor: Usually, the salad and garnish at mid-range spots are an afterthought. Here, the tsuma (shredded daikon) was crisp and the lettuce was actually fresh—not the wilted, browning mess you often find. The ginger dressing had that punchy, bright flavor that saves a starter salad.

• Miso Soup Authenticity: It’s a small detail, but finding actual tofu in the miso soup is a rarity in the US. It shows a level of effort (or perhaps that Korean-run attention to detail) that elevates the meal above the standard “salty water” served elsewhere.

The Reality Check
• The Sashimi: Let’s be honest—it’s “average US Japanese restaurant” quality. It’s not melt-in-your-mouth, top-tier bluefin, but it isn’t offensive either. It’s exactly what you expect for the price point: functional and clean, but not the star of the show.

• The Value Proposition: This is where Koji shines. The Sashimi Bento Box is a heavy hitter in terms of volume. You aren’t leaving hungry, and considering the cost-to-portion ratio, you’re getting a very fair deal.

Bottom Line
Koji is a classic example of a Korean-run Japanese spot: they might not be chasing Michelin stars for their raw fish, but they excel at generous portions, fresh sides, and consistent execution. It’s the perfect “neighborhood regular” spot—not a “special occasion” destination.

I had the best experience at this restaurant today. I was able to spend some much-needed time with my two kids and my daughter-in-law and it couldn’t have been better. The food was fantastic and the service was even better. We had such a lovely evening together with full bellies, amazing food, and the most welcoming atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

This amazing Japanese restaurant is a must-go! The hot entrees were delicious, and the sushi was delicately made with high-quality fish. The owner and all of the staff were very kind and welcoming. I will definitely come back here soon!

We had an AMAZING dinner experience last night at Koji in Northville. The service was top notch. They really went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. The soup and salad was on point, but the fish was truly amazing. We got 5 different nigiri and 5 rolls to feed a party of four. It was the perfect amount of food. The fish was so fresh and tender. Nothing was fishy at all. The whole dinner was a huge success and I was very impressed with the quality of sushi. We have eaten sushi all over the United States and throughout many parts of the world and Koji can stand up to the best of them. Perfect cuts. Flawless texture. I can’t wait to go back!

Normally I would be giving raving reviews but will have to say was extremely disappointed with carryout which today was my first time doing it with them. On a regular bases I would dine in and this would be my goto for Sushi in Northville. Today I ordered out. When I bring my mom to dine in she always loves the boat presentation. I know the boat is not used for carryout but the sushi was smashed together and the two orders of Masago without rice was spilled all over. I would highly suggest to ask them to place in it own little container if you order it. In addition we have a deadly allergy to salmon in the house hold. When we dine in this has always been addressed but it seems if do a carryout it may not be. Luckly the signs of an attack are triggered immediately and we are prepared to address. You ask, will this stop me from going there, No but I may not order sushi carryout again. I am doing this review to for warn others of the risks of carryout. I have never had any issues with dining in. If this was a dining in review from my yesturday visit I would give it a 4.7. The reason it isn’t a 5 is because for the first time ever different people came to our table multiple times under 45 minuyes since we received our food and attempted have us finish and get put. As stated earlier it was the first time experience to push while dining in. And no the resturnant was not busy and no, it was not closing time either. There were plenty of tables open. It could have been they were bored because it wasn’t busy. To clarify the picture attached the Masago was supposed to be NESTED ON TOP of the cucumbers. This was one of two containers and you can see how everything was smashed together.

Stop by craving some authentic Japanese food and this did not disappoint! Sushi was nice and the quality really showed through. The udon was perfect and nearly reminded me of the udon I would get I Kyoto with a fatty rich broth that was smooth. The staff were really nice no complaints there. The atmosphere is really good but isn’t the best as it is a little small at the front. The food is very fairly price. Overall recommend it if you are in the area looking for solid Japanese food.

We went to Koji on a Monday night and had wonderful food and service. The restaurant was very busy and there were many take-out orders ready for folks to pick up. The edamame was warm and well salted. The agedashi tofu was crisp and delightful. The carrot ginger dressing on their green salad was fresh and tasty – so simple but so much flavor. I ordered the cucumber, avocado, asparagus roll and love the crunch of the veggies in the sushi rice. My husband had the chef selection and he loved everything!!

Koji is hands down my favorite sushi spot! The food is so fresh but what’s even better than the food is the service! We always have the same server(I wish I knew his name) but he always treats me, my sister, and my daughters SO…..SPECIAL when we’re there. The attention, the love, and occasional special treat or compliment from the chef he sends to the table makes the experience that much sweeter! Every chance we get we pass every other sushi restaurant JUST to come here! Absolute chef’s kiss!

We had no plans to go to this place, found it on google while driving by and decided to stop in for dinner. There was only one table available when we stopped in on a Wednesday evening around 6:30pm. The staff are very nice and sushi was really good. We also had miso soup and some gyoza which were really good. None of us had any complaints about this place and I recommend it.

This is by far the best sushi you will ever have! I’m sorry but I’ve been to some of “the best” sushi restaurants in New York, Miami and California, and they don’t compare! We have been coming here for almost 15 years now and the consistency and service have never changed. The fish is so fresh it literally melts in your mouth. Even the most basic roll, like a California roll, is amazing. Our favorite rolls are shrimp lovers, salsa, rainbow, California, salmon avocado, Michigan, and the salmon nigiri( they literally melt in your mouth). Mrs. Kim, the owner, is so sweet. My kids love her! She is very welcoming and is always helping the servers out. The servers are all wonderful. We have known Jay the longest, and he’s just so sweet with our kids and always does such a wonderful job. We honestly feel like family coming here! I can’t recommend this place enough. We order it carry out on a weekly basis and dine here when we have time!
