The service was super quick the food was very fresh! Great spicey tuna roll at a great price and the best japanese fried rice I have had in quite a while! The bowls where perfect and you definitely get your money’s worth! I didn’t take a Pic of my General Tso’s chicken but, it had crispy broccoli and a large amount of the Generals chicken, enough to bring how for a whole other meal! Super friendly service.

I love this place. My husband and I have been coming here and have had some friends come as well and they are hooked! I love the consistency of the food, great service, and love supporting a local business. Sweet couple and very attentive, even when they have many orders to fill.
We have ordered steak, chicken, shrimp hibachi, FRIED California roll, dumplings, crab rangoons, hibachi noodles (my kids are picky missing out lol but a great thing to have for them) sweet potato roll, dynamite roll, miso soup, Thai iced tea…EVERYTHING is so good! I am thankful for the more affordable prices too. I’m so happy to recommend them and I see they are getting so much business because they truly deserve it!!

My first time visit today and I couldn’t finish my meal with out sounding like Harry Met Sally. ( movie version ). The food is absolutely fantastic with fresh ingredients, service impeccable and I am definitely going back.
My dish as they placed it in front of me,
House Special Chow Mei Fun, and boy did I ever, go and try it, I’m positive you won’t be disappointed! Thank you Koi and Helene for the beautiful birthday lunch!

I got the spicy tuna roll and the shrimp tempura roll. Both were delicious and served very quickly! Staff was nice and very polite. I’ll definitely try to stop by again in the future! (also- there’s a bite missing because I had to taste test first lol (10/10))

As a foodie, having a natural curiosity to discover new places to eat, I sometimes take for granted the food destination gems that exist right in my own backyard.

In the case of Koi Sushi & Grill, I would have never discovered it had it not been for a Doordash (side hustle) request a few months ago.

Located in the plaza mall where Chipotle, Chicken Salad Chick, McDonald’s and Carabba’s are the most visble and frequented spots, Koi Sushi & Grill is not visible at all unless you drive along the inside perimeter of the fairly sized open lot with another array of retail establishments that are attached as a strip mall.

This Japanese gem is located in the farthest hidden corner of the strip mall.

I had the privilege of being the only customer to dine in for a mid-afternoon lunch, and got to meet and connect with the young owners, Ming and Julie.

We have a natural connection of all being New York City transplants, and the warm welcome was well received. While they were both from NYC, they actually met in Tampa.

Ming is trained Sushi Chef who got his big break in New York’s most popular Chinatown district.

Julie has been a host and server for many years in the Tampa Bay area, with her start in Flushing, NY.

It’s been 7 months since they took over KOI Sushi & Grill.

I took my time to review the extensive list of menu options, and decided to try for my very first time Wonton Soup – an item I have overlooked too often, as it is a common staple of Asian cuisine.

The Wonton Soup was absolutely divine!!

I then opted for the Lunch Special, Teryaki Chicken with Vegetable, absolutely flavorful, perfectly balanced and aesthetically pleasing dining experience.

They made a space for frequent customers where Julie takes Polaroid-style shots of them, and showcases them on a wall, sort of like a Wall of Fame concept for loyal customers.

I became an instant fan at the moment of entry with a warm welcome from Julie. I cannot stress how important it is to make an impact at the moment you enter a dining establishment.

The atmosphere is quite inviting with decor that immerses you into the Asian culture.

While in conversation with Julie regarding the difference between Japanese and Chinese food, I learned that both she and Ming are Chinese, so I had an even greater appreciation for how they’ve been able to fuse their influence into the dining experience.

I had a most incredible time meeting these new owners who are truly excited to serve the greater Charlotte County community.

I absolutely recommend KOI Sushi & Grill to anyone who happens to visit the Port Charlotte area for an excellent dining experience!

Awesome family owned restaurant that cooks for you like your family. The food was top quality and very unique. I mean deep fried broccoli and peppers crazy good. The server was so sweet and very polite. The chef even plated the food according to my daughter’s favorite anime show. Excellent attention to detail even to small things, will definitely be returning. But I honestly feel that this restaurant is being slept on. Wish them all the best.✌️

We read about on a local FB page and stopped by mid afternoon. Hostess/waitress was very friendly and attentive. We ordered the fried wontons , yellowtail scallion sushi roll and the chicken and shrimp habachi entree . Everything was good. We’ll try more dishes next time .

If you enjoy sushi where quality, freshness, and thoughtful presentation matter—Koi is a solid pick. We enjoyed dinner, and highly impressed with the presentation, service, quality, taste and pricing. We will be back.

Staff very attentive. Very clean. The hibachi lunch was good. Neither my husband or I liked the rice. The calamari had too much breading. Reasonable prices. The yum yum sauce tasted a lot different than other chains, maybe watered down? We would go back and try something different.
