I had an amazing experience at this sushi restaurant! The presentation was absolutely beautiful — every piece looked like a work of art. The fish was incredibly fresh, tender, and full of flavor. You can really tell the chef pays attention to every detail.
The sushi rolls were perfectly balanced, with fresh ingredients and delicious sauces that didn’t overpower the natural taste of the fish. I especially loved the creative toppings and the high-quality cuts of sashimi.
The atmosphere was clean and elegant, and the service was friendly and professional. Overall, this was one of the best sushi experiences I’ve had. I will definitely come back again!

We are so excited to have Koi Sushi open up in Gaithersburg! It feels great to finally have a new sushi spot in the area with such a diverse menu. We ordered the Crispy Rice sushi, the Koi Roll, and the Maryland Roll, which were all fantastic. The absolute standout for us, however, was the Princess Roll—definitely our favorite! The dining room was running a little cold, but the genuine warmth of the hospitality and service completely made up for it. Highly recommended!

Koi Sushi in Rio is an incredible new addition! We ordered the Sashimi and the Emperor Roll — both were 10/10. The sashimi was beautifully presented and incredibly fresh, and the Emperor Roll was perfectly balanced with amazing flavor in every bite.
My cocktail, the Ube Passionfruit Tequila Brûlée, was absolutely stellar — creative, smooth, and just the right amount of sweet.
Everything from the presentation to the quality was top-notch.
Highly recommend and we will definitely be returning!

So freaking delicious!! Everything was wonderfull. Maggie and staff are very fast and efficient. The sushi hand rolls are 4 or 6 depending on the roll. And the chef’s special rolls are 10 peices and are absolutely delicious! We had more then I took pictures of b.c. it was easy to forget I wanted to share them here. The house saki was served hot and it blended perfectly with the rest of the dishes we ate. Thank you so much and can’t wait to come back!!!

We had a beautiful experience at Koi Sushi, especially getting to visit during their opening days (this was their 4th day). Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared.
For appetizers, we had the shrimp tempura and a California roll both were delicious and a great start to the meal. The gyoza pork was honestly a 10/10, so tender and full of flavor.
For our main dish, we ordered the chicken teriyaki, and it was another 10/10 perfectly cooked and absolutely satisfying.
The atmosphere was lovely, the food exceeded our expectations, and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

The sushi was so fresh and yummy! My kids got the California Roll and the Kararge Chicken appetizer. The kids liked it. I got the Ecstacy Roll and added cream cheese. We also got the Mushroom Soup. Highly recommended as the soup was AMAZING!
The green tea was really good as well. I asked for sugar on the side and they accommodated me. Everything ended up being like $50.00, so it was very reasonably priced. Our waiter was also great! Thanks so much and we will be back to try the Ramen!

I ordered the Maryland sushi roll and the tonkatsu ramen.
I will start off by saying I really wish I timed how long that it took for my food to get to the table. On one hand I can’t understand it’s a Friday night and the place was packed. The sushi roll came out in a timely manner and was tasty. My friend ordered udon and that came out in a timely manner.
I had to wait a good amount of time before I got my food. My friend was clearly slowing himself down to eat his meal. He said it would be 3 minutes and then a second employee had to come around and check again. By l the time that I got my dish he was essentially done with his food.
Normally I like to take pictures of my food and post reviews, but for the dishes to come out at two completely separate times was a bit frustrating. So I didn’t take a picture or anything. I think the ramen was okay at best. I wish that there was more pork or at least some thicker cuts. I was quite disappointed with how it all went down..
I got the koi pond to drink and it was alright. It was kind of frustrating because we clearly see the drinks that are ready and on the counter. We had to wait around 5 minutes or so to get our drink.
If I was to come again I would get the sushi but even that was a bit pricey. Granted it is the Rio and you expect to pay more for the atmosphere and being in the area. Maybe just going for the lunch specials.
The atmosphere was alright. Nothing special. The music choice was bringing me back to high school but I didn’t mind it. They did have a slight studio Ghibli theme with it being centered around spirited away. Kind of wish they went all out with it but they have to keep it more toned down for the casual / non anime fan customers.
To me it seems like they just did not have enough staff on hand and they’re also a bit disorganized. I don’t think I will be going back again. My advice is to go on a slow day.

Make this your go to spot. The food was delish and fresh! Staff was friendly. The place is aesthetically pleasing. The hot tea is to die for. They have a good variety of food. This is a great addition to the Rio area.

Good sushi, everything is delicious. The only down side is that everything is brought when it’s prepared, not together. So, the third person at our party was the last one to eat and we had to wait for him while we already finished our meal.
