I have to eat gluten free which is usually not an issue at a Japanese restaurant. The waitress had no clue about gluten but checked with the kitchen. When she came back from the kitchen she told me that I could only eat sashimi. No rice either. When I’ve questioned why rice would have gluten, she couldn’t explain but insisted that their rice is with gluten. So I’ve asked another waitress, who was also the hostess and manager (maybe?!) and she repeated the same as before that their rice has gluten and I can only eat sashimi and they are a Japanese restaurant and can’t accommodate my wishes. She was very rude and I felt very disrespectful and also hurt and mistreated and misunderstood- I’m not gluten-free by choice but due to celiac which is already super annoying anyways. So I was honestly close to tears and couldn’t enjoy the food then anymore. We paid 250$ bill for 2 ppl and for that price you usually get a nicer service so we will def not be coming back.
Went here for a bday dinner Omakase. And since recently, we have had amazing Omakase in Japan, the bar was set pretty high, and boy, let me tell ya, it did not disappoint.
We sat by the bar and asked for Omakase with Shin-san. And I trust him with all my heart and tummy. Loool! All the fresh fishes, local and important was just so fresh and greatly prepared.
The Black cod appetizer truly melted in your mouth good.
Shin-san also made the birthday dinner by preparing a special dessert! Shin-san really made this 3xperience so worthwhile, the service is even better than we evrr had in Japan.
Definitely a splurge for Omakase but so worth it. So glad that a lot of the locals frequented there and the chefs knew rhem by name. Now, that’s dedicqtion and love in their craft. The waitresses are always so courteous and attentive.
Koi, you didnt disappount me then and you didnt disappoint me now. My ever favorite place for Omakase in SoCal!
ありがとうほざいます。ごちそさまでした。
First pic is the poke. It was just a mess in flavor. Big miss. BUT the rest was amazing.
Sashimi plate, toro tuna sashimi, chopped toro and rainbow roll. Everything was very fresh and clean flavor. Will definitely be going back.
Food:
Sashimi Dinner plate was filled with fresh cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail, whitefish, and clam. It also came with a bowl of miso soup, salad, and rice. This was more than plenty to fill me.
Teriyaki Salmon plate was delicious! Just the perfect amount of rice, salmon, and veggies. This meal also came with a bowl of rice, miso soup, and salad.
Appetizers:
Baked Mussels was delicious! The sauce was creamy and abundant. Personally, it was a little on the salty side for me, but the extra sauce made for a great dip for the fried calamari we ordered.
Fried Calamari was lightly coated in tempura batter and deep fried to perfection! It was the best fried calamari I’ve ever had.
Chawanmushi was quite delicious! This had to be ordered first since it takes about 10-15 minutes to make, but so worth the wait for!
