This place is a solid mid. The prices are up there as if in a big city. People still come because it’s one of the better Asian options around. Crab ragoons are good, Noodles are good, fried rice is solid most the time. Not much flavor on the meat but has not been dry. Vegetables are good. The sushi so far has been really good. If they would have choice of one meat and either noodles or rice for like nine bucks this place would be awesome! Hi potential if lower price.
Would be a four to five star if the meat and rice dishes were significantly cheaper. Prices of the sushi are reasonable.
The sushi so far has been a good experience.
We most likely come back for the sushi.

I ordered the sushi here, two rolls. I was given the smallest rolls I have ever seen, with hardly any rice on the outside. And I spend18 bucks for a piddly amount of sushi. Absolutely not.

The teriyaki chicken was dry, not tender and didn’t have any teriyaki flavor. The rice and vegetables were okay though. Not too satisfied with this dish.

Sad. Did not live up to “express,” we waited at least 15 minutes, and our food was paltry and unexceptional. Husband received a MOUND of rice, a bit of veg and meat. I had the dragon roll, some pieces didn’t have any eel.

Such a disappointment! Nothing like it used to be! My sushi was half the size it normally was. One piece did not even have tuna in it. The tuna was darker than usual and tasted fishy. My salad had yum yum sauce for dressing, not ginger dressing. Almost $40 for two meals and I couldn’t eat mine.

My husband went in to Koi Express to order food for take out. The young man that took his order knew exactly what food he could have when my husband told him he was a Celiac. That is a great plus for a restaurant!!! My husband had the crab and cucumber salad along with Hibachi Chicken Teriyaki and vegetables. His came with white rice. I had the Hibachi Chicken Teriyaki also, mine came with fried rice and vegetables. I also had the Crab Rangoon. Which were excellent!!! Huge portions.

Absolutely flawless. Genuinely, the best Japanese restaurant we’ve had in years. The quality, cleanliness, taste, and service could top anything that Richmond or Lexington restaurants have to offer. 11/10! This is our new road trip stop, without a doubt.

If I could give zero stars, I would.

I had ordered some spring rolls and I noticed a pond-like smell and fishy odor while consuming. I opened the spring rolls to find these pieces of .. meat??… they smelled rotten and certainly had a fish smell. I had done some research and online shows it was EEL MEAT which is extremely dangerous to be served when it smells fishy… we DIDNT order eel inside our food.

I went into the store to ask what the meat was and was met with rudeness stating it was a “mushroom”. Their mushrooms aren’t even sliced in chunks like that and last I recall, mushrooms don’t smell like fish.

Needless to say, don’t eat here as I now think I’m sick from the fish( that was likely rotten) that I unknowingly consumed and didn’t order… they won’t offer a refund either
