Very affordable, upscale, friendly service, very clean and WOW…Great, vast menu!
Perfect for 2 or for large parties and families. Just go…if you love Chinese cuisine? You’ll love it there.
After leaving the restaurant, I found a credit card on the ground and returned it to the front desk. At that point, the waiter confronted me aggressively and demanded more tip money, insisting that a $10 tip was mandatory. He raised his voice and made the situation uncomfortable in front of other customers.
I have years of experience working in customer service and have never seen behavior like this. The food was very good, but the service completely ruined the experience.
To start out with, upon sitting down in a dining room that looks absolutely vintage, we were presented with a large pot of tea and those fried cracker things you dip in duck sauce. This courtesy is something that’s been missing for the last 20+ years. Most of the time, you’ll need to order the tea; it costs extra and is typicly just a teabag in a cup. Here it is a full pot, nice and hot.
Another amazing thing is that they actually waited for us to finish our appetizers before bringing out the entrée. When you go to a lot of places, they sort of rush you by bringing out everything in short order. But not here. Here it was like a civilized meal where you felt like you could eat at your own pace, and not have to worry about cutting the conversation short just to scarf your food so the table doesn’t become too crowded.
The food itself was amazing. While the General Tzo’s was not too spicy, it was extraordinarily flavorful, as was everything else they served. Every dish I tried was great. The fried food wasn’t too fried, and the portions were fantastic.
The seating was very comfortable.
The service was exemplary. They were on top of everything, from refilling the waters to the effortless way they served everything and cleared the extra plates with great haste.
The only thing I didn’t care for was the fortune cookie at the end. Not only was it a little stale, but the fortune was lousy. Though I’m not going to blame them for that.
When we arrived at 540pm it was pandemonium. It didn’t matter if you had a reservation.. No one was in line or wanted to get in line and the host was only making things worse.
Once we got seated, we sat waiting for water, and the waitress finally took our order after 15 minutes.
We ordered 2 soups, dumplings, and sesame chicken.
It took 30 minutes for them to bring it the soup. But only after they came out to say that they had run out of one of the soups.
The manager said not to blame the waitress but then the table next to us that day from got soup immediately.
The soup came out asking with come dumplings.
The waitress promised the rest of the food would come out immediately. But 10 minutes later it still wasn’t there.
We had been sitting in the restaurant for 50 minutes waiting to eat and finally told the waitress to get us the check for the soup and dumplings if we didn’t have dinner out within the hour.
The sesame chicken came out in huge, stale, chunks, that we needed knives to cut up, and cold without rice. She promised to be back with the rice immediately. After we finished the cold chunks of chicken she brought out cold rice.
Meanwhile others were getting great service.
We had to ask for the check and found a $5 charge for a thimble of sauce.
We won’t be back and recommend The Great Wall instead!
2 nights later I enjoyed the crispy duck. OMG was it amazing!! The presentation and cleanliness were perfect. Both take out and eat in experiences I enjoyed a lot.
