Went on Monday night at around 7pm. I’ve visited Kohinoor several times and it is easily my favourite curry house in Southampton.

Restaurant was moderately busy for a weekday, but as it’s small I would recommend booking.

The service was great, and the staff were attentive.

I had the madras which was a perfect level of spiciness.

Naans are very big and I’d recommend sharing.

The bhajis are great too!!!

I’d recommend this for anyone in the area, we will come back!

Absolute waste of money and time.

I went to Kohinoor of Kerala with high expectations and left completely frustrated. The chicken pakora was a disaster — the chicken was clearly old and stale. Unacceptable for any restaurant.

Before ordering malai kofta, I clearly asked if it could be made spicy. The staff confidently said yes, so I asked for super extreme spicy. What arrived was an insult. Just by looking at it, we knew the money was gone.

After tasting it, it turned out to be sickeningly sweet — like a dessert curry. Who in their right mind serves naan with a dessert? This was not food, it was a joke.

If you don’t know how to cook North Indian dishes, remove them from the menu instead of misleading customers with false promises. This place has no consistency, no honesty, and no quality control.

I will never come back again and would strongly advise others to avoid this place.

Wonderful food, If you aren’t good with spice the chicken tikka masala is a go to, especially for children. Walm atmosphere and accomodating servers, however food did take a while although it was well worth the wait. Great restaurant overall, I recommend booking as it was very busy.

I enjoyed a.lamb biryani ordered extra spicy with a Cobra IPA.
No problems with the tasty and spicy food, although I would have appreciated more lamb.
The Cobra IPA was a first.
I will return and pay more for extra lamb if this option is available.

Have been coming here for more than 10 years now and every time the service is incredible. The staff are so friendly and make every occasion feel very special. Nowhere comes close to the standard of food and service at Kohinoor. I generally go for the Masala Dosa or Kerala chicken curry with paratha.

I recommend this place for someone who wants amazing authentic food and friendly consistent staff.

Inauthentic Keralan/South Indian food. A serious injustice to Kerala. Overpriced for the taste and quality of food being served. Large variety of options available but most items are a bland recreation of the same thing. Very few items from the menu that I have tried so far have been good- most items have tasted underwhelming. I recommend Srav’s Kitchen nearby or Mint Dosa in city centre for those looking for more authentic South Indian cuisine. Staff made the experience particularly terrible in my last visit (will not be returning), disorganised and gave us only 30 minutes to wait for and eat our food before saying our table was reserved for guests who arrived 45 minutes early. Truly appalling customer service to be told that they needed our seats for guests who reserved whilst halfway through dinner, and the constant staring and irritation made the experience uncomfortable so the food was not even finished when we decided to leave. It seemed that they simply wanted our money as we were happy to go elsewhere, they could have been honest about not being able to take a walk-in and the right thing to do is refuse service or not lie that there would be a table free for 1.5 hours, did not even bother conjuring up an excuse or apology at the very least!!
This was our first and last time dining in the restaurant as most times I have ordered for click and collect, but after this I have decided there are simply much tastier options available in Southampton who offer much better customer service so I will be taking my business elsewhere. Hope this helps.

Dear all , I went to this restaurant with high hopes . To be honest I went twice . First time i went with a friend . We ordered chicken Chettinad and butter chicken with Nan. The Chettinad was really horrible abd tasted very bad . I told the staff then about it and they apologized saying maybe the masala was not ok .

Second time I went with family we ordered biriyani and kallappam with fish molly and egg fried rice. Being very honest the taste was ok but they reduced the quantity so much it looked like kids meal. I told them as a suggestion to please add a bit more rice after eating as a friendly customer . The staff got agitated and he replied like he was irritated saying we have bowl and we use only that for biriyani also the chicken peices are not tye type we get usually with Biriyanis . It’s chicken breast chopped into cubes .

In total it was a long wait of 1 hour and 10mins to get the food pls their monopoly attitude like eat if you want. Not pleasant. Humbly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone . And surely will NOT go there again.

In short more money less quantity . Today it was a loss for me.
