I chose this restaurant for my family’s Christmas Eve Lunch. We ordered Chicken Masala, Shrimp Masala, Lamb Masala, and Samoa with garlic Naan and rice. They were tasty. However, the lamb masala wasn’t good enough compared to the chicken and shrimp Masalas. We were satisfied with the food. I’d like to visit again.

Yum yum yum! Visited for the first time for restaurant week and I was so impressed! The vibes are nice, good for casual or fancy dinner, the portions are really good (we both had enough for leftovers) and the food came quick and hot! Lots of fun drink options as well – also the naan is so good and fresh!

Everything is perfect! This place is an awesome formal restaurant with beautiful white cloth tables and proper service! You can also order take aways. Both are delicious. Delicious food! I have a had a lot of Indian food in my life and this place is authentic and flavorful. They have great options on curries and masala, really yummy naan, and great service. Perfect for a family outing, date, or just a meal! The price is amazing when considering all this. Under 20$ per person generally. Will definitely be back often.

BAD DINING EXPERIENCE ALERT: Horrible experience! Please avoid visiting this restaurant at all costs if you’re in Champaign. The food is overpriced for the portion sizes and is not at all palatable. We went there for my birthday dinner and ordered schezwan chicken, butter chicken, naan & mango lassi. Apart from the lassi, we couldn’t really touch any of the food as they were taste less, spice less and an utter disaster! The naan was too chewy & simply felt like we’re having a frozen one that was just heated up & served. The butter chicken felt nothing close to an authentic butter chicken as the gravy was too sour and full of uncooked tomatoes with no balance of flavors. The schezwan chicken starter portion was so tiny that we could literally count the pieces. Overall it was a nightmare of an experience & disappointment!!!

Response to owner:

Yes I’m pretty sure, it is Kohinoor restaurant in Champaign. Also I don’t know about whether you have schezwan chicken as starter or not. But that’s what your waiter recommended us. Attached are the pictures for your reference so you can verify against the background and your food. And I’m stating my experience at your pathetic restaurant which you can’t alter just by being defensive. Plus, the horrible food served to us yesterday was really bad on our stomach.

The food was delicious. The service was really good and everyone was very nice. The food took a little bit to come out but that’s how you know it’s made fresh. The atmosphere is really relaxing and welcoming. I will definitely be coming back.

Gosh this restaurant is excellent! I’ve been a big fan of Indian food all my life and this place takes the cake! It’s so beautiful when something you love reminds you why you love it; Kohinoor reminded me why I love Indian food so much. The atmosphere was casual and calm, but the food was electric and spiced to perfection. Do yourself a favor and try the Kohinoor Lamb Aloo Gosht and a Garlic Naan, and while I don’t typically love ginger, my partner’s Mushroom Chicken Ginger Masala was also delightful! Even the rice is awesome here!

OVERALL RATING 8/10
The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting. It has a good vibe; soft music and dimmed lighting. There is ample seating to accommodate many guests. The restaurant is very clean; the floors, tables, plates and silverware were all clean. Bathrooms were very clean and well-stocked with the necessary items. The staff member who served us was Anil. He was extremely helpful and friendly. During our meal, he was always there when we needed him. Now to our meal: we had the Samosa Chat as our appetizer. It was wonderfully made and full of flavor. For our entrees, we had the Butter Chicken Ginger Masala and the Lamb Garlic Masala. For our breads, we had the Roti and Paratha. For our drinks, we had the Masala Chai. The food was absolutely delicious. There are 4 other Indian restaurants in the Champaign/Urbana area, and I have ate at all of them. I can honestly say that KohiNoor is by far the best and most authentic Indian cuisine in this area. For your review, I have attached photos of our meal. Our total bill for two came out to $60.18.

So… the food is good. The curries don’t taste as you’d expect them to, this restaurant makes them a bit different. But they’re still good, and I’d say actually a bit healthier than the other Indian restaurants on campus. Would recommend if you’re looking for slightly different flavors. My favorites were the Kohinoor Chicken Aloo and Navratan Korma with their Naan.

We ordered samosa chat, chicken biryani, Kohinoor chicken aloo and paneer saag. They came with naan or rice and we got one of each. They were all very good and the chicken aloo was the group favorite

Absolutely love this spot! The food is wonderful with plenty of options. I went with my Aunt a while back, no idea what was in store as it was my first Indian experience, but my expectations went through the roof for very Indian cuisine after this! I learned 2 things, 1. Don’t judge a book by its cover, or this case, restaurant by my preconceived cuisine stereotypes 2. sometimes the best culinary experiences come from the most unexpected, unassuming places, and trying something completely new is often the key to finding a new favorite cuisine—my palate was forever changed and now I know what truly authentic Indian food tastes like! Highly recommend
