Wonderful time having lunch at the soft launch today. I actually wanted to come back in for dinner but it was booked out – which I was happy to see!

While everything was enjoyable, the most standout thing at our table in my opinion was the Sapporo Miso Ramen broth, and surprisingly also the little free chips you get when you sit down. Those things are freaking delicious from the texture to the seasoning.

Side note: I’d love to know if they have a kid’s menu or not

I look forward to trying more items across the full menu to get more familiar with my top favorites, and will have fun coming by for lunch more often. Maybe I can score one of those fun geometric booths, too.

There were a few things I’d chalk up to growing pains of the first day in service and then maybe a couple constructive pieces of feedback I’d share, but that really is to be expected during soft launch. Overall, I am excited to have this great new restaurant in our community.

Also, the staff is wonderfully kind and professional.

Thanks Kobe team!

Really disappointed in our experience. First the place does look good, so no problem with the atmosphere. The food (appetizers and ramen) were very bland and lacking seasonings. The exception was the mushrooms in my ramen. Unfortunately these mushrooms were candy sweet and very off putting. I’m not sure if the chef mixed the salt and sugar mix up or if they marinated in too sweet of a sauce. We had to follow up with the person waiting on us multiple times to get our drinks correct. The waitress suggested an appetizer not on the menu then brought us something else, I suppose at random. When the waitress brought the ramen to the table, she had her thumb on the inside of the bowl. It didn’t help make the meal less bland however this isn’t an acceptable hygiene practice.

I visited during the soft opening today and ordered the Rare Steak, Well Done Brisket, Tendon and Tripe Pho Bowl. After comparing my bowl to my friend’s, it seems identical to the option that’s listed without steak, so it might help to make the menu descriptions a bit more clear.

The flavor of my pho was okay, but I personally felt it could use a little more depth. My friend’s broth had noticeably more flavor. On the other hand, the appetizers were great the Egg Rolls, Gyoza, and Chicken Wings were all delicious.

The overall aesthetic of the restaurant was really nice! I loved the atmosphere and music. It was put together very well.

I was excited to try this new restaurant since my old pho place closed. I was excited to see the variety on the menu and it made choosing what to eat difficult.

I decided to stick with the pho but took a few spoonfuls of my dates Tokyo Ramen. Both were outstanding.

We tried an egg roll and gyoza for appetizers and we both had the mango jasmine green tea.

I look forward to returning and trying more things!!

Kobe Pho & Poke: Tokyo-station energy in Bloomington

Walk through the door and it feels like stepping into a Tokyo train station—bright, buzzing, and full of momentum. Owners Eric and Minzy Chen set the tone, and Minzy’s upbeat welcome doubled as a guided tour of the menu, pointing out the comfort classics and the spicy showstoppers.

Service that shines

Amy was on it from the first hello—checking in at smart intervals, pacing dishes perfectly, and making sure the visit hit all the right notes. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in a great experience.

Drinks

Sake Nigori. Creamy and lightly sweet, a soft landing before the spice.
Sake Chokara. Clean, dry, and crisp—an excellent palate reset.
Mango Green Tea. Bright, fruity, and refreshing without being sugary

.Appetizers

Egg rolls. Golden, shatter-crisp shells with a fresh, well-seasoned interior. These are absolutely in the running for best egg rolls in town—consider the gauntlet thrown.
Fried scallops with miso. Delicately fried with a savory miso accent that lets the natural sweetness of the scallops lead.

Mains

Curry Ramen. Comfort in a bowl. A silky, aromatic curry broth that clings to springy noodles, layered with warmth and a touch of sweetness. Balanced, cozy, and deeply satisfying.
Ghost Pepper Ramen. A thrill ride. The heat builds steadily without steamrolling the broth’s flavor, so spice-lovers get both depth and a dare. Add-ons cool things down—or don’t, if chasing the endorphins.

Vibe and takeaway

Kobe Pho & Poke delivers big-city pace with Bloomington hospitality. Between Minzy’s joyful menu walk-through, Amy’s exceptional service, and bowls that actually deliver on flavor and heat, this spot earns a place on the Central Illinois noodle map. Come for the curry ramen, stay to test your mettle on the ghost pepper.

Having lived in Japan, my perspective on authentic Japanese cuisine is quite specific. I noticed a sign affixed to a chair featuring the hiragana for shōchū (distilled alcohol), yet the drink was not actually listed on the menu. When I inquired, the waiter offered sake instead, seemingly unaware that while sake is fermented, shōchū is distilled.
I ordered the Tokyo tonkotsu ramen, but the flavor profile was closer to miso. The broth lacked the signature richness and depth characteristic of the 8-to-20-hour simmering process required for a proper bone broth. It felt as though the base was made from a powder or paste rather than from scratch. Furthermore, the noodles were tangled, and the bowl contained narutomaki—an addition more reminiscent of the cheap instant ramen popularized by Momofuku Ando than a specialty restaurant. I would strongly encourage the kitchen staff to experience authentic ramen in Japan to better understand the culinary standard expected of this dish.
On a positive note, the tempura vegetables were well-prepared and enjoyable.

For their 6th day open…..it was impressive. Still a few hiccups…..nothing that would keep us from coming back. I’ve been missing the poke place by the airport…..and just excited this place opened. I did enjoy my poke!! We like the Kobe places in town and were looking forward to this one opening. The dining room is an explosion of sights! And the different seating style are fun. We’ll be back!!

Finally tried this place out after several attempts of stopping by and being told there’d be a 45 min. wait. The best thing about the place is the decor, it’s really cutely done, especially the 2 honeycomb style booths they have.

Unfortunately, the menu leaves a lot to be desired if you’re looking for anything vegetarian/vegan. This is the only ramen and pho place I’ve ever been to that doesn’t even have a chicken option, let alone a vegetarian one. The bowl of ramen we ordered was served lukewarm and not steaming hot like it should be. The broth lacked any sort of depth. The rice bowl we ordered was strictly okay. The tempura vegetable app was excellent. The free wonton chips were great as well.

Overall, it was a decent first experience, but unfortunately probably won’t be back due to lack of chicken/veggie ramen/pho options. Service was very slow as well, and our server kept saying “I’m still very new” to any menu questions we asked!!

We had no idea that Kobe had just opened when we stopped by for lunch today! WOW!!! What an absolute “explosion” of eye candy!!!! You definitely feel like you are not in Bloomington Illinois! So much thought and hard work has gone in to this establishment! The food was WONDERFUL! And the staff was so friendly and informative of the menu! I’ve learned so much! ******** I would like to add that I immediately went to check out the reviews after we left and I was so very disappointed! Anything less than 5 stars for a brand new restaurant just starting off is hurtful! I bet every one of the dumb issues they shared on google, they could have mentioned to the staff there but didn’t! Giving poor reviews to an up and coming restaurant like this was cowardly! And you should have really kept your sorry, attention seeking opinions to yourself! THIS RESTAURANT IS EPIC!

Coming into the shop expecting what was the be descriptive this place has it all for a Ramen, Poke and Mi-xins! First time being there was amazing as they are just starting and was greeted to Im assuming the owner!..? She was amazing of a person to talk to, get to know the restaurant and for what they had to offer to their establishment! Gave me a clear guide to their menu as I said it was the first time being there not knowing that they are just now starting to get things ready in full swing but they have PLENTY of options to choose from all three sections of what they serve (Ramen, Poke and Mi-xins). Great atmosphere, amazing decor and seating for how the inside is, Definitely coming here for one of the pointers as well as it matches so well with the vibe that they are going for. In the photo I ended up getting the Okinawa Curry Ramen, From going to the sushi bar that Kobe also has in the area that offers ramen this is the place to go as this was honestly the best ramen Ive had in my entire life. From the Soup itself to the noodles everything about this dish was absolutely Perfect and Consistent. It proves their statement for what they are trying to do with what they offer which I do love and support fully. Even for going to a Japanese Owned restaurant in Australia that was Ramen based this topped it by a mile. Thank you guys for the great Experience and Will be coming here often! Definitely would recommend this place if you want the best ramen in the city and give it at least one try if your not into it for experience. <3
