The community there in those days was very tightknit and the city was a delight.
Coming into a restaurant by that name and fueled by a sweet nostalgia, my expectations were high. Kobe had a vibrant food scene founded I’m sure in the strong international community that flourished there.
The Kobe Hibachi Grill is a welcome haven there at a hectic intersection, that much like sweet memories, can create a haven at those wild intersections of life.
The place is simple, blonde wood and straight forward furniture, with very little adornment on the wall to distract or complicate the focus of why we are there.
The service was efficient and kind, which to an old one like myself can be the perfect seasoning. The smiles appear genuine, the enthusiasm real, and the menu engaging.
There is nothing to be afraid of here, no culture shock, no worry about choosing the wrong thing, it is… accessible.
The miso soup was on point and took me back for a moment to that beautiful town at the base of the mountains. The bento a familiar and beautiful construction that any child would understand and love. Everything in its place.
The rice was exactly the right consistency to pick up with your chopsticks, a feature not completely understood by many American chefs. The General Tsao’s chicken carried the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and a touch of fire. The spicy tuna rolls , the exact right counterpoint in this red lacquered array of culinary repast.
And if you haven’t had it, the mochi ice cream is a little like a drug, you can’t put it down and you think about it and long for it long after.
I have to admit, I was not fond of the egg rolls, which were cold and somewhat mushy inside, but the gyoza was excellent, chewy where it should be chewy and soft where. It should be soft.
The place is new, and honestly a major step up from what it was before. And the owners and staff exuded that sense of family and pride.
Set there at the crossroads like a tender sapling growing along a busy trail, it feels hopeful and somewhat tentative. Places like this deserve to be nurtured and cared for. They deserve to be added to your list, talked about.
So many different things to try and so many future moments of peace and calm repast. I hope its roots grow deep into the community.
Atmosphere was fresh and bright while still cozy. It was smaller than expected inside but very nice. I wish I had been inside the Skippers that was here before so I had a better reference.
We ordered a couple rolls (Kobe and spicy girl) and the kobe yakisoba. It was all excellent. Extremely well seasoned. The chicken beef and shrimp in the yakisoba were so tasty and the overall dish was so good with a variety of veggies and noodles. Both rolls were great. The Kobe was so fresh and the sauce was delicious. The spicy girl roll was very good as well and had some good heat to it.
We live nearby and are so happy to have such a yummy restaurant option within walking distance. Can’t wait to go back and try more items. Thank you!
For apps we tried the fried chicken gyoza, and that was good but it’s hard to mess up gyoza. We also tried fried Calamari and while it was the perfect crunch, the breading was sweet and that really threw us off.
For mains we went with the Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll, the Burn Your Mouth Roll, The Mexican Roll, the Dragon Roll, and the Amazing roll. Soo goood. Everything that was labeled as spicy, was actually spicy. My husband was VERY impressed by that as usually it’s not spicy at all.
The service was awesome, they were attentive and refilled the drinks several times and were quick to answer any questions we had, or find out the answer if they didn’t know.
Prices for each roll were average and I actually thought we were going to pay more than we did!
This place is absolutely amazing. We received a free appetizer of vegetable egg rolls. They even gave us a complimentary seared salmon roll and some other type of roll. Those we delicious. We ordered chicken and steak hibatchi, Kobe Tonskosu Ramen, and a Spider Roll.
Everything was absolutely delicious and cooked very well.
The seared salmon roll was the star of dinner. It melted in your mouth. I will be thinking about it for a long time.
Definitely recommend.
At the end we also got our meta some sushi and omg the presentation is awesome from something meant as takeout!!!
My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Menu selection and prices seemed good and fair in my opinion. I had a question about one of the entrees and the waitress was able to speak with the chef to get an answer. Food came out fresh, hot and quick and was SO delicious. We actually ordered some fried rice to go because it was so good. If I’m ever in town again I’d definitely come back here and recommend it for others. This place is casual dining and has some booth and chair/table options.
