Huge disappointment. I purchased the regular beef brisket plate, and to my surprise I recieved jerky instead. The cowboy beans were a very small portion, and it increased the unsatisfied opinion I had developed. Do not buy the brisket, these people failed to understand what makes brisket good. The fat could not save the brisket.

If you ever find yourself in Alexandria, Louisiana and you don’t stop at Koal’s Barbecue… you’re doing life wrong. This place is pure smoked-meat happiness. The moment we walked in, the smell alone told us we were in for something special.

The star of the show? The brisket sandwich. Absolutely amazing. Melt-in-your-mouth tender, perfectly seasoned, and piled high like they actually want you to leave full. Every bite had that perfect balance of smoke, juiciness, and flavor that makes you stop mid-sentence and say “oh wow.”

The sides were awesome, the service was friendly, and the whole vibe feels like classic Louisiana hospitality with serious barbecue skills behind it. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Koal’s is one of those spots you’ll be thinking about long after you’ve left town.

Five stars all the way!

I wasn’t expecting this but absolutely the best brisket bbq I’ve ever had. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich n Mac. I ordered salmon shrimp and brisket Mac on the side. It was so delicious I could’ve eaten it again. The salmon is spicy but I love spicy food. I highly recommend this place and will be back. The staff was friendly and accommodating. You won’t be disappointed. The chef Mr. Seth even greeted us while we ate.

Ordered for pickup. The PB&J was great. The two salads on the other hand were very disappointing. Definitely on the WEAK side. Both were basically mixed greens with a little cheese and a couple red onions. No egg, bacon, or tomatoes like the description. Only turkey and no smoked ham in the other as described. Steak in the other salad was okay.

Stopped with the family on our drive from Natchez to Houston. Despite arriving close to closing time, the staff were super kind and accommodating. The food was amazing and some of the best BBQ we’ve ever had! We left with plenty of energy for the rest of the tip (and a few leftovers!). Thank you for a great experience and amazing hospitality! We’ll definitely be stopping here again next time we’re passing by!

We ordered the loaded brisket potatoes to go for dinner recently. We were expecting them to be a meal, esp for the price. They were the size of a side baked potato. We also got the brisket queso too which was good: however, the chips were over cooked/old, and they sent half a bag. Portion size and quality control is important. The brisket flavor was good though!

My boyfriend and I were at a title company on Hwy 28 west today and I told him when we came out that I could smell BBQ. We just couldn’t see the business because of construction going on beside it. Well I pulled out on 28, saw the sign and turned right back in there. Man am I glad I did. We have eaten a lot of different places and tried so many new dishes, but I would have to say that this is by far the best plate of food we’ve gotten to date. The ribs are amazing, don’t know exactly what you do pit master, but for sure keep up the great work. We will most certainly be back. Not to mention the atmosphere and hospitality of the staff. The inside of the building is so charming, cozy and comfortable. ❤️

I’m on the road a lot and there are a lot of BBQ places that are rated over 4.0 and shouldn’t be. This place is legit! Their brisket is perfection!!!

Edit: 2/4/26. Made it back after a year…and it’s still amazing!! Added pics this time. If you like brisket, it’s definitely worth a detour!

Got the cheese brisket fries and just wasn’t impressed. My fries aren’t cooked all the way through, I expected shredded cheese, and they are soaked with some gross white cheese sauce that made the already undercooked fries soggy. It looked good but does not taste good!
