This is the galaxy roll, I don’t even have words for how beautiful and delicious this sushi roll is. My wife and I have been coming here for years, she gets the general tso’s chicken, also the best I ever had. They just redid the menu’s and they’re great! I would be remissed if I didn’t mention the crab ragoons which happens to be the best I’ve had. We love this place and so do the kids!

They have a wide variety of selection of dishes. The restaurant started out as an Chinese-American restaurant. But it has since moved into its new location and rebranded under Kiyomi – which is made to feature a selection of Japanese dishes in addition to the already existing Chinese-American dishes. The sashimi is sublime. And the chinese-american is some of the best I’ve had. Not everything there is supposed to be Japanese – but the dishes that feature sashimi are authentic to Japanese cuisine. (Besides the teriyaki dinner, which I am unsure of). It’s hard to find good authentic Japanese cuisine in the states. Even less so in a small town. Kiyomi has my applaud for pairing it with other Asian Fusion foods.

Some of my personal highlights: Bibimbop, Sashimi Lunch Special, Bellefontaine Roll, Hamachi and Unagi Sushi, Cocktails (very good), Fried Rice and Orange Chicken.

Things I avoid: The curry (it’s good but it’s box curry you can get at the japanese grocery), Teriyaki Dinner Box, Sake Bottle (it’s good but very overpriced. I get the same bottles they sell for $30 for $10 at the liquor store one county over).

I stopped in on a Sunday evening for dinner. I was seated right away. Our server was extremely friendly. Our food came out quickly. I had the spicy tuna & shrimp tempura sushi and my guest had the General Tso chicken with fried rice. Everything we had was very good! Parking can be tricky. Luckily there is parking in the alley beside the building. That is where we parked. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their specialty rolls.

This place has quickly become one of my go-to spots! The vibe is super chill and welcoming, making you feel comfortable right from the start. The menu has a great mix of dishes, all made with really fresh ingredients. I tried the house special, and it was seriously so good! The portions are huge.Their server was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed without hovering, and the food came out fast, even though the place was packed. You can just tell they put a lot of effort into every detail, from how the food looks to the way the staff takes care of you. If you’re looking for a great meal in a laid-back, friendly spot, I highly recommend checking this place out. Total hidden gem—I’ll definitely be back!

Every time we come here the food is amazing HOWEVER the man that works the register I’m not entirely sure what his name is but he just seems unbothered and unwilling to help I was having issues with the card reader and his exact response was well what do you want me to do about it? Then he seemed aggravated and annoyed that he even had to do anything other than answer the phone never mind the fact that I felt rushed as hell to order AND he was of no help when asking about the menu. My husband loves this place but he can come by himself from now on I will no longer be giving them my business if I wanted rude and dismissive I would have just went to Wendy’s or McDonald’s. Hands down worst customer experience I have ever had save your self the hassle and money!

My fiancé and I were hankering for Asian cuisine so we stopped here two days ago. Had never visited it before despite growing up in nearby Urbana. Food was really tasty and served in rather large portions. They also served one of our favorite brand sakes in the traditional vessels, which I found highly appealing. Our server, while definitely busy with multiple tables, was holding her own nicely, checking on the pair of us regularly. Would definitely recommend eating here!

Have gotten takeout here multiple times and have had mixed experiences. The basic sushi, chicken fried rice, general tso’s and lo mein are fine but the house special chicken shrimp and hibachi were not done well. The house special sauce seems to be chicken broth with some corn starch, no seasoning, spices or flavor. Overall, not bad, but it definitely depends on the menu item.

Coming from harbor area of California, it was hard for me to find even a decent chinese/Japanese joint until I found Kiyomis. It had just made it onto my list.
Place was good a year ago.
Prices have been skyrocketing probably hoping nobody would notice.
3$ for a single egg roll that isn’t even made in house is ridiculous.
Crab rangoons with plastic film found in them.
Waitresses give you attitude and crappy service when your tip doesn’t satisfy them.
Yes. Yes they do ask for tips here unfortunately. Almost begging.
One day our total was $58 for 4 items and I had tipped 8$ and the waitress looked at me confused and offended asking us if she did something wrong..
Cooks in the back picking their noses and touching their faces while cooking. No thanks. And yes I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
Ask me anything. I know an ex cook, and a front end hostess.

Odd mix of bad serve/food this evening.

Waiter was carrying 2 tables worth of refilled drinks (mine included) with the straws sticking out the tops and touching together…
Then while eating the waiter suddenly stuck the bill in our faces and said “Here you go!” and held it infront of us instead of setting it on the table..

On the food side,
Some of the crab rangoons were under cooked/mushy and the mellow yellow was just yellow tinted soda water.

Kiyomi is usually hit/miss over the years, this time was another miss.
