This is probably the best coffee shop I’ve been to. An absolute must stop on this route. Great views, great coffee, absolutely flawless ambience. A peaceful surprise to find when exploring highway 12. The architecture in roundhouse Kiva style made from massive timbers is impressive and blends perfectly into the scenery. Everything looks and smells wonderful and staff are super friendly. The outdoor seating area is inviting and it’s super peaceful inside. Worth going the highway 12 route again for this alone. The coffee is the perfect blend of coffee bean flavor and the chosen flavoring, not too sweet, not too strong, just right. I don’t think any other coffee I’ve had has struck this so perfectly. Parking lot is interesting, unique going up the center ramp, but was easy to get in and out. For older folks, might want to park on the left instead of up the ramp.

This place has been on my bucket list for at least a year. GPS got us there just fine. Be careful, though. If you blink you might just miss it! It blends into the cliff side so well!

The café was nice but I was expecting the views to be a lot more dramatic. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. We drove almost 4 hours to start our day here and continue with some hikes in the area. It was nice to have this café as a part of the plan. We weren’t in the mood for breakfast so we just got drinks. I had gotten coffee elsewhere earlier this morning so I was looking for something less-caffeinated. They unfortunately ran out of matcha right before we got there so I ordered a London Fog, instead. The staff was extremely pleasant and I love all of the art that is available to buy. The day became hotter as it went on, so half of the shades covered the windows to keep it cool. It was unfortunate because it impeded the sights, but a precaution you have to take in the desert, I’m afraid. We went outside to get the full picture. It was nice out there. We enjoyed our experience here. The drinks were good, and you kind of get the feeling of being a pioneer from a different time. Would definitely return if we find ourselves in the area again!

3.5 stars. Amazing views! We loved the indoor decor and seating. We ordered from their lunch menu and they were pretty busy so the service was very slow. The plates were small so I wouldn’t come here if you’re hungry. Their veggie sandwich and vegan tamales tasted fine. I would still recommend coming in though for drinks and a treat from their baked section.

This is a must stop. The place is so unique and overlooks the canyons, it’s truely breath taking. The service was wonderful. They have outdoor seating where you can have your dog ❤️ I took off a star because the coffee was mediocre, it’s not bad but not great. Also the muffin was very bland, my dog did love the muffin though 🙂 The experience was worth it and the views are incredible. If it wasn’t for the location I wouldn’t recommend the coffee or muffins.

Kiva Koffeehouse is such a unique and cool spot, perched on the side of a hill with parking above it. The atmosphere is incredible—a mix of hippie and Native American influences that gives it a really special vibe.

We tried a couple of iced lattes, a blackberry muffin, and a slice of coffee cake, and everything was excellent. The coffee was smooth and flavorful, and the baked goods were fresh and delicious.

This place is definitely worth a stop if you’re traveling through. Between the amazing views, unique setting, and great coffee, it’s an experience you won’t forget.

What a great location! Whether you just got done hiking, lower calf, Creek Falls, or Escalante river, or driving the beautiful scenic Highway 12, this is a cute place to stop for refreshments and amazing views.
The blackberry muffin was delicious and the Americano was decent, but the espresso was atrocious. After having such amazing espresso in Torrey, Utah at Dark Sky Coffee, this espresso was bitter, thick, burnt, with an awful aftertaste.
So stick with a different drink
But! The staff was friendly and informative, the place is clean, the muffins are delicious albeit slightly overpriced at six dollars each muffin .
But relax and enjoy the absolutely gorgeous views !!

We stopped here on our trip around the Grand Staircase and were delighted by this beautiful coffee shop. It is set up as a semi circle with the coffee bar and kitchen at the straight end. There are wrap around floor to ceiling windows that showcase the beautiful scenery and the supporting structures are thick polished tree trunk pillars between each window. They took as much care of the landscaping and outside of the building as they did the inside and walking in the front door feels like a mini oasis in the desert. There is ample parking and the shop is ADA accessible.
The shop supports local artists and there are paintings, gorgeous ceramic pottery, and Navajo style beadwork jewelry for sale.
The ambiance is relaxed and enjoyable and the service is fast. We especially loved the chai tea latte which was reminiscent of a warm gingerbread cookie with the right balance of sweet and spicy. The pastries were delicious and there are gluten free and vegan options as well for various menu items.
The customer service was above and beyond, and their manager Sarah was especially helpful with giving us directions to the best places in the area. Jeremy was also very kind and helpful, and overall the staff seemed cohesive, cheerful, and worked well together.
If you are visiting the area this is definitely a good place to stop: for the ambience, the food, and to take home a handmade souvenir that embodies the spirit of Escalante without being touristy. Thank you Kiva Koffee House for your great service!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kiva Koffeehouse – Escalante, UT

During a 16-day road trip through the Wild West, I made it a personal mission to try a new coffee spot every day. Out of all 16, Kiva Koffeehouse stood out as my absolute favorite — and honestly, it might be one of the most memorable café experiences I’ve ever had.

Perched above a scenic canyon along Utah’s Highway 12, this place is more than just a coffee stop — it’s an experience. The views are breathtaking, the architecture is stunning, and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. You instantly feel like you’ve discovered something special.

I stopped in before a day at Capitol Reef and Canyonlands National Parks, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The coffee was smooth and flavorful, the baked goods were fresh, and everything came with a smile. The pace is calm and peaceful — a welcome change from the rush of the road.

Note: Kiva Koffeehouse is only open from April to October, so plan ahead. Trust me — it’s worth timing your route around it.

If you’re road-tripping through southern Utah, do not miss this spot. It’s a rare mix of great coffee, friendly people, and awe-inspiring surroundings.
