Went for the first time tonight and I must say it was a great, unique and fun dinner! Crazy George is hilarious! The cheeseburgers were good! The fries were dang good! They do not except debit or credit cards so come prepared with cash cause it’s definitely worth it! We’ll definitely be back to try more dinner items… didn’t know they served some items in Texas toast!! It’s hard a old school diner feel to it which makes it a great feeling to walk into… don’t let the outside deter you!!

We heard about Kitty and her son, George, on a KSL special tribute. Kitty has been the cook here for 72 years! The food is delish and we thoroughly enjoyed George.
We will be going back and taking friends.

There is a reason that the majority of the reviews you see are five stars or one star. George is quite a character dedicated to a passed culture. I have been going here for years. Never once have I had anyone from this staff be rude. I have always found the food and atmosphere to put a big grin on my face when I walk into this place. People complaining about how “they only have one type of steak and call themselves a steakhouse”. What did you expect? the place is barely bigger then a double wide with a small staff. People need to lighten up and find the charm that is encrusted within their walls because you are truly missing out on a great experience.

Update, September 16, 2017. Just ate a wonderful meal prepared by Kitty. What an amazing lady! Kitty today celebrates 70 years in business and preparing home cooked meals for her patrons! Thanks Kitty!
Good Food, Cozy & Charming! Amazing step back in time – diners and dives would LOVE this place. Great hamburgers and a good steak with lots of fun from Crazy George “You just want water – well here’s a pitcher just out of the ditch – I don’t know how we make any money on the stuff!” Crazy George has a great sense of sarcasm and charm – apparently some find him scary – I found him to be as charming as the food his 80 plus year old mother prepares. Have I returned YES – And I would highly recommend Kitty’s as a fun relaxing step back in time!
One comment to the wise – when the place gets really busy – and yes it can – then it can take a fair amount of time to get your food (although it is worth the wait) – so if you see lots of cars and are pressed for time then maybe you should return when they are not so busy.
But if you go with a spirit of having fun – enjoying a good steak, hamburger or another delightful dish of home cooking then you are bound to enjoy – and make sure to leave room for cake! My favorite is the Blackberry Cake – Kitty makes from scratch!

Like others who have posted negative reviews about this “steak house”, I too am baffled by the good reviews. My husband and I went here yesterday and it was an awful experience. We like to support local restaurants, especially now, but this place needs help. We waited at least 15-20 minutes before we even had our order taken. After almost an hour of being there with no food we almost walked out. When we finally got our food my husband’s salmon was not cooked completely and was very bland, no seasoning whatsoever. My chopped steak, which was basically hamburger meat with onions was OK but nothing special. The server/host George that people seem to love was horribly rude. When we almost left he made rude comments, such as “I didn’t realize you were more important than those guys”, and acted surprised that we were upset, despite the fact that another group of people walked out without eating while we were there. Owners are oblivious to the fact that they obviously cannot keep up with running a restaurant and have horrible customer service and sub-par food. Not worth the prices they are charging. Would never pay what they are asking for a steak at a dirty dive establishment., just to be served flavorless cheap food. Won’t be back ever.

I’ve enjoyed myself at Kitty Pappas many times. This unique environment is not for everyone and neither is George. Almost everything is good but I order various styles of burgers or pork chop dinner, all delicious. Understand that Kitty a very real person has been the chef there since 1947, when it opened, she still does the cooking so be patient. There are some simple rules to follow for a better experience:
1. Pay with Cash, George doesn’t did the card thing.
2. Don’t ask for steak sauce, it’s not polite for some.
3. Order some homemade cake. I don’t know any other restaurant you can order home made cake.
When your there just relax, read the signage and enjoy the experience.

One of my favorite recent dining experiences. It’s full of charm and ambiance like nowhere else in Utah. Walking in is like stepping into a complete time warp. However, I agree with both the good and bad reviews on here. If you’re expecting Texas Roadhouse, this place isn’t for you. The food is still probably prepared the same way it has been for 70 years. The dining experience we have come to expect has been totally refined and is frankly a little boring. I thought the food was tasty and the Crazy George had me and my date laughing out loud. Recommended for people with a light heart and an appetite for something unique.

I am truly embarrassed to admit I’ve lived in Utah most of my life and ate here for the first time today. I had a cheeseburger with egg and was not disappointed. George (Crazy George as his name tag reads) was fantastic and made our meal enjoyable and interesting. Two bites into my burger and I knew I would be back. Probably in my top 5 places for a burger. Great atmosphere with a nostalgic, functional jukebox that takes quarters and dollars. Give it a try. Sooooo much better than any nearby chain restaurant. P.S. My wife had the Chicken Fried Steak. It was amazing.

They call themselves a steak house, yet only offer one kind of steak. We waited over an hour for less than desirable, mediocre food. Crazy George was rude and crude. We will not return, nor ever recommend this place to anyone. This is the first time I’ve ever actually posted a review for any place ever. I do it as a warning to future unsuspecting customers. Customer service is not their specialty, and steaks are even further down the list of things they do well. The only thing that Crazy George does well, is to be consistently rude, unprofessional, and horribly disgusting as a person! ! Save your money and time and sanity, eat elsewhere!
