Dimly lit, wood-hued traditional eatery serving raw & cooked Japanese specialties plus sushi & sake.

I had such a wonderful dining experience at Kitcho Izakaya in Richmond! The sashimi was incredibly fresh, and I especially loved the halibut sashimi — it was delicate, buttery, and simply melts in your mouth.
The udon and Inaniwa-style noodles were both delicious with great texture, and the crab chazuke was comforting and full of flavor. Everything tasted thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented.
The foie gras toast was another highlight — rich and smooth, literally melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly paired with the crispy toast base for that amazing contrast in texture.
Overall, an excellent spot for high-quality Japanese food in Richmond. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This place is an amazing Japanese restaurant for an experience. I don’t recommend it for regular dining. Very tasty food but comes at a price. It’s worth it. My favourite recommendations are the Aji Sashimi, where you also eat the fish deep fried and anything of your personal choice that’s not individual nigiris (I chose the negitoro don for my first visit). Go here if you have the money and want to have a good time 🙂

After a glowing recommendation from my brother and sister-in-law, my expectations were high, but Kitcho Izakaya managed to exceed them in every way.
Having experienced many omakase menus before, I can confidently say Kitcho is on a different level. We sat with Chef Chris, whose multi-decade expertise is evident in every movement. His attention to detail is remarkable—not just in the precision of the knife work, but in how he balances flavors and presentation. It was a masterclass in sushi.
We were so impressed that we returned the very next day specifically to explore the cooked menu. Often, a place that excels at raw fish falls short on the kitchen side, but that wasn’t the case here. The cooked dishes were just as thoughtful and flavorful as the omakase.
Whether you are looking for a high-end sushi experience or a top-tier izakaya meal, Kitcho is a must-visit. We’ll definitely be back!

We sat at the sushi bar and had an amazing experience. High quality selections and top tier recommendations by the chef. Highly recommend. The matcha ice cream was by far one of the best I’ve had.

I was very pleased with my spontaneous experience. I dropped by on a quiet Sunday night when I noticed it driving past when the shop I was going to was closed so it’s nice to find a place that stays open a lot. They even had some late night specials for after 8:30 pm. The service was fantastic. Little touches like complimentary cabbage and dressing right away and a full pretty teapot of tea are appreciated..Lots of menu choices, well presented Easy to spend a lot and there are authentic Japanese dishes that aren’t at other places. I had age-mochi, a trio of blue fin tuna cuts of sashimi (3 pieces), daikon oden, engawa, and the late night 6 raw oysters. Everything was tasty. I love mochi so glad there are at least a couple of dishes with mochi. Lots of premium fish available and I made a mental note that there were plenty of choices of sake (I was not drinking that night). I found that the oysters had a fairly strong mignonette/dressing (or whatever you would call it in Japanese) which was very tasty, but my personal preference might have been lighter to let the oysters shine but they were good and I’m sure if someone asked, they would serve it on the side. Plus you would normally share them late night so you might want one or two punchy bites when you’re drinking. Great place for a higher end dinner. But I was also very comfortable inside as one person that dropped in and treated very well (which is also a mark of good service/good people).

I had dinner with my friends at Kitcho Izakaya last Saturday, and we did have a great time over there along with a lot of sumptuous food. The chef, Chris, was very friendly and he recommended us many tasty dishes. My wife likes uni a lot and the uni samplers were scrumptious, activating our taste buds at different levels gradually. The sushi was delectable as well, especially the Blue Fin Tuna, and it was just melting inside my mouth. For people who want some cooked food, the udon was delicious with homemade seaweed+dried fish broth, no msg or salty soup base. Grilled chicken skin should be another highly recommended dish, and the skin was extremely crispy with mouth watering aroma. The list could go on and on, Sakura shrimp tempura, clam soup, fresh oyster samplers, vanilla soft ice cream …. just to name a few.

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place as he was getting home from a flight because it’s close to the airport and open late compared to other sushi restaurants in the area and the experience blew us away! We were greeted by the friendliest staff. Their menu is all in Japanese so we told them that we trusted them to take care of our food order. We got a beautiful bottle of sake to go along with our meal (25% off on Thursdays) and they served us dish after dish of the most incredible and creative sushi! Everything was fantastic and this is now our favourite sushi place in the greater Vancouver area. Highly recommend!

Kitcho Izakaya offers a dining experience that borders on fine dining, especially when it comes to food presentation. The Zaru Soba was beautifully plated and really stood out. I was also pleasantly surprised by the tempura – perfectly crispy and light, without a trace of oiliness. Skewers were flavorful and well-executed, definitely a highlight. The sushi is standard and didn’t quite measure up to the rest of the menu.
It’s the great place to wind down with a bit of sake after work, paired with a variety of tasty appetizers. A solid spot in Richmond for a relaxed yet refined izakaya experience!
