Superb dinner. Everything was perfect to the dot. Fresh seafood, exquisite seasoning and tasteful.

Easily one of the best mussels and scallop I have ever had. Highly recommended.

Great, friendly staff. Attentive and lovely.

A little pricey but it is worth it if you want great seafood.

We celebrated my mother’s upcoming 60th birthday in style. A beautiful meal from start to delicious finish. The chowder, gambas and vegetarian risotto were highlights, not to mention the mind boggling upside down cheesecake! Highly recommend for a special meal with a special group of people ❤️

They got me in on a Saturday night with no reservation, I got to sit under the tent as it rained with the heaters it was so lovely. The service was quicker than ever and kind as well. The food was amazing fresh bread w creamy butter, a slightly sweet lobster risotto but when you add the lemon and some fresh cracked pepper perfection, oysters were the best I’ve had I just don’t know if I’m an oyster girl
Thank you!

Chowder – I really liked the base and seasoning, however the fish inside was overcooked and each bite was amazing creamy, dill(?) broth around dry, gritty fish chunks.

Tuna – I first tried the tuna plain without the topping and it was a bit “fishy”. I eat a lot of fresh tuna so if you know you know. I can say that with the fruit topping it was good, because that masked it, however I would have been disappointed eating it plain, which really shouldn’t be the case with seared and seasoned tuna.

Service – everything with service was wonderful until I sat for 20+min awaiting the bill. I was eating alone, my entire meal took less than 30 min. After my leftovers were packed I sat, and sat, and sat with my credit card in hand. Had to eventually flag someone down to complete the transaction.

It’s a perfectly adequate place with a lot going for it, but as an international traveler with a lot of fine dining experience, I can’t give it 5, or ever 4 stars.

It’s a seafood place, and the seafood I had was squarely ok.

I still think about this meal. It was the first meal of our trip and we just happened to walk by and they had a table ready for us pretty quick! I still dream about these mussels. A fantastic seafood dinner to lead into a night heading to different pubs. A breath of fresh air and fine dining before a night of pints all over town.

But for real, order the mussels. I’m going back to Galway JUST to eat here. Great wine list too and fantastic service staff.

I had my heart set on eating here after Mark Wolters of Wolters World ate here and raved about it.
The whole experience started of great when we arrived at the restaurant. We were literally laughed off when we asked for an American iced tea, which is just steeped tea on ice. The waitress thought we were asking for a Southern Sweet tea. I explained it to her what my wife wanted and she made that happen. No issue there. After that small snafu is where I unknowingly started on my journey of terribleness.

My wife ordered the Seared King Scallops and was moderately impressed with the taste. They just didn’t taste as fresh as we would expect an Atlantic seaside restaurant to be. Ok, no harm no foul.

I ordered the Hereford Sirloin. I ordered it rare. In all my time on Earth, I have only ordered my steaks Medium. You can probably already guess the the ending to this story. Mind you, I had nothing that would cause this prior to eating here. By 10 pm that night I was starting to sweat and my stomach was hurting, as well as all the fun parts of food poisoning that goes on behind the scenes, no pun intended. That next day I was sick as a dog and we had to drive from Galway to Dublin. Parking in Galway is not as straightforward as one would think, so we ended up parking a few blocks over from our hotel. So, as expected, I had to haul all of our stuff to the car park that might as we have been 10 miles away.

Will I try Kirwan’s again?
No. I have read way too many of the same stories from past patrons. Sorry.

Unfortunately, I got food poisoning from the oysters. I also had the lobster risotto, which was heavy. It tasted ok. I had the pistachio creme brûlée for dessert, which was also just ok. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience. It was also extremely loud.

Service was 10/10, great staff.

A wonderful find in Galway for a nicer dinner! I went with my parents while we are here on holidays and it was such a great find. The oysters, mussels and fish were incredible as was the fresh veggies. We were seated outside under some nice heaters so my parents were wonderfully toasty.

and our server Marcus was so lovely and gave us a lot of great recommendations both for what to order here as well as were to grab an early breakfast and was super accommodating to my father who has hearing aids and struggles in loud spaces like restaurants. We loved it so much we mag even be back tomorrow!

It was a nice place to visit. It’s a very big restaurant with seating outside, inside and on the first floor. We were day upstairs that had a bar as well. We started with a very delicious carafe of red wine. They gave us some yummy bread for the table with some delicious butter. My daughter ordered their prawns as her main and a side of vegetables. My husband ordered the steak and I ordered the seabass. Everything was done well but it wasn’t excellent. We enjoyed our meal and the service was very good. We ended with a pistachio creme brulee which was very good!

Good and tasty seafood, fresh oysters, and even a few well‑done meat options on the menu. Friendly service, and they’re open on Mondays, which is a big plus. Note: they have a wine licence only.
