The service was very mid. Both the female servers lacked basic customer service skills and seemed to hate their job. There was a male worker that came in for his shift around 3:30pm, who was very kind and somehow more attentive than our actual server. He made sure our water was filled and even gave us candy at the end of our meal!
Of course, another perfect visit to Kippo. Ramen and veggies were always freshly made. Great service. Love it!
Menu advertises a gluten free noodles option but doesn’t label allergens so I called in advance and Alex (an absolute legend!!) answered. You know how you can sometimes tell if someone is knowledgeable about gf and celiac-safe based on how they answer your questions? She super was, and explained that for ramen the Shio broth is gf, and for the veggie option they remove the egg and the mushroom.
When we came into the restaurant she was our server too. I got to talk to her a bit and learn about the care they take to create gf options and ensure they are gf, including how she keeps an eye on whether materials they import from Japan are gluten free or not. Evidently this business is owned by a family friend, and you can feel the thoughtfulness and love and pride that’s gone into this menu. The vibe inside is cool too – they were projecting a Studio Ghibli movie on the wall ️
I got the shio veggie ramen and added fresh garlic. It was warming and tasty, strong soothing chicken noodle soup vibes. I was with a big group – no one else gluten free, some vegetarian some meat eaters. Everyone was really pleased with their food (they had ramen and donburi). My friends kept saying the fried tofu (not safe for us gf sorry!) in the donburi tasted “like a donut!” haha, apparently the texture is really nice.
In the future I’d love to see them expand their options for people with food allergies, like by using gf tamari sauce and/or coconut aminos. For now, this was a wonderful dinner with friends in a small business with people who love food and love their guests
They offer limited alcoholic drink options but their sparking sake is great, if you don’t mind a sweet carbonates drink.
Their prices are affordable and the service is great. This is perfect place to come to for casual and quick dinning.
I’ve been coming to Kippo for a couple years now and will definitely continue to return.
