The steak and lobster were fantastic. Really liked the Bali Hai bomb roll and the purple haze. Thought there were too much onions in the fried rice.

We got to the restaurant early since we didn’t have a reservation and didn’t want to wait for a table. We got seated when they opened. There were people waiting for a table when we left a little over an hour after we were seated. This was a Tuesday night. Staff cleared the extra settings after filling our water cups. Our server brought us a complementary wonton appetizer and took our order. Our order came with miso soup, which was served first. Staff was attentive clearing bowls as we finished them and filling our water and tea cups. We got the C special which comes with soba noodles and a box with the tempura (vegetables, fish and shrimp) and sashimi (ahi/tuna). Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Ambiance wise it was loud inside with conversations that you can barely hear the background music. A sign that everyone is having a good time.

If you are Vegetarian or Vegan please don’t go to Kintaro, you are going to be disappointed. The stir fried vegetables with tofu that I ordered was a joke. The vegetables variety was not good, the quantity small, presentation absurd and not even rice comes with it.

Disappointing! Ordered the sushi roll with scallops and received rice rolled around SLIMY raw scallops. Could not eat. Veggie roll for our vegetarians was rice, lettuce and carrots. No sauces or toppings. Blah. Our favorite sushi rolls are made by artists with garnish, sauces and enhancements. Should have taken a photo of those poor rolls. Bill came to over $200 for five of us and the only dish that was delicious was the miso soup. Local relatives that were with us loved their deep fried dinners but the sushi lovers were very sad. Very loud and could not hear our conversations. May try again next year but probably not.

This place exceeded my expectations. it was an amazing experience! The calamari was perfectly cooked and had a great flavor. The California roll was fresh and delicious, and the Bali Hai Bomb sushi roll was simply amazing! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was very inviting. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for delicious Japanese cuisine. Definitely a 5-star experience!”

Kintaro Japanese Restaurant was an excellent dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious. From the appetizers to dinner specials to the desserts all the food was exceptional. It is definitely worth the drive if you are staying near the restaurant on the island of Kauai. I hope you have a chance to enjoy this great Japanese restaurant.

Great environment. Excellent sushi. All fish is fresh. Gotta try the green tea mud pie. A local fave. Reservations are recommended ahead especially on the weekends and special occasions. Parking is tight of busy so go early.

Unfortunately I’ll have to agree with some recent reviewers regarding the sushi rolls. Very loose and thick with rice. The vegetarian roll looked especially meh, and was according to my aunt. The miso soup was excellent, though the warm sake was so hot we couldn’t pour nor drink it for some time. I’m willing to go back and try some other dishes, but would skip the sushi. Hopefully just a newbie and able to improve.

My daughter made us last minute reservations and we were glad that we could get an early dinner reservation at 5:30. We were there early and the line grew quickly. We were glad to have been seated immediately and our appetizers were ready within 10-15 minutes. Each time we added to our order, we had a very minimal wait time. We came with our appetites that we had forgotten to take pictures of some of our dishes that we ordered.

Definitely need to come again and try some other dishes that we didn’t get to order.

All in all we had a great time there.

This was a great experience. We watched our food be prepared. Steak and fish on point. Absolutely loved the vegetables. We opted for fried rice and prepared fresh right on the spot. We had sake. I tried cold and warm. I think warm makes it more buttery and smoother.
