Great food and service, but a few things to keep in mind. First, you must reserve via email 2–3 weeks in advance. The food quality is solid, and the service is excellent—they even change your plates for every single course. However, the dining pace is very slow. They serve dishes one by one for the whole table to share, meaning you have to finish one dish before the next arrives. We spent 2 hours dining, which might be too long if you’re starving! The matcha dessert was a nice finish. It’s a quiet, cozy spot near Little Tokyo, but personally, I wouldn’t return due to the slow pacing.

Loved our dinner here! The space is gorgeous. Loved the wagyu and the miso soup. The octopus was great. Service was fantastic. Will definitely come back if I’m back in LA. Highly recommend.

Great restaurant and overall experience. All uni dishes are very delicious and fresh. The rice is also the best Japanese rice i tasted so far. Owner stated was import from japan and fresh process in US (no sale on market). worth to order share dishes and eat with rice. Dishes and utensils are replacing frequently between diahes. Great service.
Will come again.

Love this place for incredible quality of food, service, and atmosphere. Every dish on the menu was creative and tasteful. The server was very friendly and welcoming to tell us the ideas behind the food. We had a great time here. Booking required email communication, but very timely confirmed. This is my favorite asian fusion restaurant in LA! We will definitely come back.

Absolutely outstanding. Impeccable service and delicious food in a clean and minimalist setting, what more could you ask for? Make sure you make a reservation in advance, when their reservation window opens (secret tip: use the “scheduled send” feature in gmail to make sure your reservation request is perfectly on-time).
My personal favorites were the grilled beef tongue, grilled cod, and sesame mousse. The grilled beef tongue was crispy on the outside and perfectly tender but with just the right amount of bite. The grilled cod was super juicy and savory, skin was crispy – I can eat that with every meal. Lastly, the sesame mousse – mousse has no right to be this delicious. Creamy and lightly sweet, it was so good we ordered another one immediately.
No doubt I’ll be back the next time I’m in LA.

Amazing food and service! Loved the presentation. Great sake as well. Tip was included in the price which was great! Highly recommend the uni risotto and fried tofu with mushrooms

There is a master chef and a master mind behind the scenes in this small, unpretentious, well appointed Izakaya. If the layout seems a little odd the food and presentation more than makes up for it.
The offerings are all unusual and tempting and if I were a full time resident in L.A. this would be my go to place for any worthy excuse.
I loved every bite that I ordered and my only regret was finding the urchin risotto in the menu when I was already too full and satisfied. It will have to wait for the next time I am in L.A.
But if you are a full time resident you have no excuse not to eat in this mini paradise.

The Honda Plaza contains a treasure trove of great eats, and Kinjiro fits in beautifully.
I had the opportunity to try Kinjiro after hearing about the beef tongue nonstop! Everything here was delicious, even the ones that were beyond my comfort zone. I usually don’t get potato salad, for example, but this one had a great mix of textures and flavor. We also tried the seared uni, uni risotto, fresh tofu, yuzu chicken, and beef tongue noodle soup.
I know we ordered way too much and we were stuffed, but we still had to order dessert! Their hojicha panna cotta was a perfect way to end off the meal and was the last stop before a fat food coma.
A reservation is required and you don’t really need to dress up here. I would avoid casual sandals, graphic tees, and gym clothes, though. The restaurant and staff/owner are super chill. There’s a brief wait for your food, but then the dishes start rolling out pretty quickly!
If I ever get the chance to come back, I look forward to trying different dishes!
Parking: Parking is paid, but even then you gotta hunt down a spot. It’s every person for themselves here.

Little Tokyo’s best “hidden gem” and maybe I should keep this place a secret but I can’t help but share. I love izakaya and I also love an intimate space. Reservations are email only rn and you make it two weeks in advance. The food is spectacular and the whole experience feels so special. Bring someone you love, eat good food, and talk all night.

The food is not as good as it used to be and my favorite dish, the beef tongue did come out hot. A bit disappointed especially when the price went up by quite a bit. The sukiyaki beef bowl was so chewy. Just thought the overall food quality used to be better.
