Everything was so delicious :o) we got 3 rolls, chicken karaage, and beef yakimaki. Absolutely amazing we were both giggling about good it was.

My husband and I had our first date here, almost 19 years ago. We haven’t been here in a while, but glad we swung by. It was empty at first which can deter customers in general, however it was just as usual.
Cute little hidden local gem that continues to offer fresh, local seafood. Made with love our rolls were delicious as always. Service was great, food did not disappoint, and glad this classic sushi offering still stands. Thank you.

Great for lunch or dinner. Food is fresh. Good selection of sushi and rolls, very reasonably priced. Perfect for pre show meals if you’re heading to the State or OLS, or a ballgame. Nice menu of hot meals – bentos, donburis, udon, etc. Unpretentious and comfortable. Service is fast and friendly.

I have never had a worse dining experience than at King of the Roll in Portland, Maine. Our server looked like he would rather do literally anything than acknowledge the people sitting in his section. It took 30 minutes just to get two sodas, and he didn’t even bother to take our order. What I assume was the manager had to come out and grab our slip because the server couldn’t be bothered. The restaurant wasn’t even busy.

We ordered five rolls, and two of them were absolutely disgusting. Warm, mushy, and honestly inedible. I couldn’t even swallow a piece without feeling sick (and I actually did get sick later that night). When we politely asked to send the bad rolls back and get something else, the server said he wasn’t sure but would ask. The manager then came out and started yelling at us, asking if we wanted our “trash back” because “everyone else liked it.”

We were nothing but polite, just trying to explain that the food was bad and we didn’t want to pay for something we couldn’t eat. Instead of handling it professionally, she belittled us in front of the entire restaurant. In the end, they only took one roll off the bill because the server “didn’t know” they don’t remove food from checks there.

I’ve worked in customer service and been to countless restaurants, and I have never been treated with such disrespect. Between the awful service, disgusting food, and the manager’s shocking attitude, I will never go back and strongly suggest you don’t either.

Delicious Asian cuisine. My husband and I had sushi, pork buns, bento box all super yummy! I absolutely loved my pork buns so flavorful!! The decor could be slightly updated. Good customer service, prices were reasonable, beers are great. We will definitely return!

This has been one of my favorite places to go since I first went there in college a few years ago. There are SO MANY options, and everything I have had there has been extremely good. The people who (I assume) own the place are really friendly and sweet, too. It’s fairly affordable for a meal, and very affordable for the area of Portland.

Good sushi, for very reasonable prices.
The salmon was really good quality/flavor. Very fresh.
The service was slow, and the place was un kept.
Would I go here again? Probably not unless I lived on the street and it was super convenient or something like that.
Their steamed buns were good. They come taco style with ginger, veggies, and either salmon for $9.95 or pork belly for $8.95. Expect to pay $10-$15 a roll. They have good specials, and make sure to take a picture of the special board when you walk in. The waitress was a little hard to understand, and I am usually really good with accents.
Mochi is $6 and comes with two pieces cut in half with whipped cream on top.
I wouldn’t order it again.
Edemame is $6. The menu pictures they have online are outdated, and prices have more than doubled.
The bathroom was really bad.

Kid friendly: 1/5 only getting one star because they have booths, besides that, they have no changing table, no children’s menu, no appropriate boosters. Not kid friendly.
Accessibility ♿️: 1/5 not good wheelchair appropriate entrance or bathrooms. However, the booths and tables are a good height. The walkways are not large enough. The take-out area is in the back, and the counter is standing height.

So Gratefull my friend recommended we done here after a long workday. Not only great sushi, but friendly & thoughtful staff, who ensure every customer is happy and fullfilled. Remember, people who literally form your food in their hands, convey their essence into you. So, make sure they genuinely care, like these people do!

Average food, good service.

The Good:
Average sushi taste, decent variety and nice to see some non sushi options as well (our gyoza was good). Nothing special, but good.

The Meh:
Facility is kind of worn down. Questionable cleanliness, although our table was clean and no complaints about service. It’s Portland, so as expected prices are a bit much.

The Bad:
Hope you don’t have broad shoulders for the men’s restroom or it will be a tight squeeze.

Poor customer service. If you have an issue with your DoorDash order from this restaurant, don’t expect any help — they simply don’t respond. I understand that order changes need to be made before the kitchen starts preparing food, which is fair. However, I had a scheduled order and realized it was set for the wrong restaurant. Physically, I am unable to pick the order up from this place. I called multiple times, but the restaurant hung up on me until the refund window through DoorDash had passed. Very disappointing experience.
