Back in October, my friends and I spent a month vacation in Vietnam and we were introduced to Com Tam. We wanted to see if King Com Tam Vietnamese Restaurant is as authentic as we had in Vietnam.

Com tam – Vietnamese broken rice is rice that was broken during the milling process. If you’re unfamiliar, broken rice has a couscous-like texture. The broken rice plate options might seem extensive, but it’s just rice with various combinations of pork chop, beef, pork, fried bean curd with shrimp paste, egg roll, sausage, shredded pork and skin, and steamed egg loaf. All served with veggies, a small bowl of broth, and fish dipping sauce. The plates run from $12.99 to $20.99 for the 10-item plate. If you don’t see exactly the plate combination you’re looking for, you can just tell the waiter which items you want and they’ll charge accordingly. Just ask if you can swap items.

Not Vietnam authentic, but then again I am no expert but definitely satisfied our cravings and brought back memories of our month long trip. We loved it so much that a month ago during the rainy weather that we went back so we can try the noodle soup/pho. The portions were generous for around $13.99 a bowl. I was craving Bun bo Hue, Vietnamese spicy beef noodle soup and my friends ordered beef pho and hu tieu, a Vietnamese Phnom Penh-style seafood noodle soup with pork and shrimp. It was good but I’ve had better.

Service was good. The ambiance and presentation is spot on.

My review was only for the bun bo hue to go. How should I put this nicely – it’s worse than the chicken soup or the potato and carrot I’ve been having bc I’m under the weather. It’s completely bland, lacking any depth. My brother in law also ordered his BBH to go and agreed. Please do not order this dish.

These guys have been around, and for good reason! Try any of their Broken Rice dishes –it’s in the name after all! You can’t go wrong!
Best of all, I love the service! These guys have a nice sense of humor. I was trying to scrape out the coconut meat with a spoon, & my girlfriend was like “Good job! ” Then our server was like, ” Good job! ” As he sipped some coconut juice. Gotta love it when the crew knows how to have fun!

15. Com Tam King Special is good but not so good as expectation when it looks like the best one which this restaurant recommended.

79. House special with beef combo is really nice. Highly recommend. We would come again because of this beef noodle. The soup and beef is delicious.

The service is good. People here are very friendly and serve efficiently.

We live in Orange County, but we were doing business here. Thought we should go and have some Vietnamese food. The waiter that served us was very polite and food was good, but not the best. They do give you a lot of protein for a meal though! The only bad thing about this place is that they did not give me back my change. They told me how much it cost, then when I gave them a $100 bill, the owner/cashier decided to not give me my change back. So I politely asked how much my bill was again since there was no receipt. Finally, he looked a bit pissed when I asked, but gave me my receipt as well as my coins change back. Honestly, love the atmosphere since the waiter was so nice, restroom was clean, and everything is decent, but I wouldn’t come back due to customer service from the cashier.

Great food, huge portions, reasonable prices and friendly staff. Parking is not the greatest but you should be able to find street parking. The owner was also really friendly!

The dishes were overall tasty and came in generous portions, especially the pho. Decent prices, too.

We enjoyed the broken rice dishes; the grilled pork that came with it had a nice charred flavour and reminded us of Chinese pork jerky. We chose beef when we paid another visit, but I think the pork had better flavour.

The coffee was good, but strong. If you’re not used to caffeine, don’t expect to sleep!

Some dishes were a hit and miss. The rice cake appetiser with dried shrimp was quite bland and the broken rice special combo contained a lot of fish cake (possibly deep fried) and sausage type items, which didn’t suit our taste. It was still good, but I think we will stick to the grilled meat next time.

Regardless, good food. Happy to come again.

Located next to a busy Asian supermarket. I went on a Friday morning, and the service was great! The food came out super quickly after ordering, and they were really spot on for me. The rolls were wrapped nicely, and the broken rice plate had the biggest portions I’ve gotten from a Vietnamese restaurant. Would recommend if you were craving for some grilled/ fried food. Park at the supermarket lot and walk to the restaurant located on the side.

Felt like we were transported to Vietnam! They renovated the entire restaurant and it’s kept pretty clean everywhere I looked.

All the staff were soooo genuinely friendly, kind, and very friendly not only to customers, but also with each other. They seemed to be having a good time despite how busy they were.

The foods were… just… !!! The hen with red rice came with the clear broth pork soup and the entire hen! The portion size was so big for the price and every bite, delicious!! Made soup with the leftover chicken and it was so good. Found a piece of a peppercorn and a clove in the chicken

The charbroiled pork dish was wholesome and the meatball spring rolls was sooo good!

Can’t wait to go back to this jewel of San Gabriel
