While the price is slightly higher compared to Gyubee, it is absolutely worth every cent. The quality of the food really stands out. The appetisers were delicious and well prepared, and every dish we tried was full of flavour. The atmosphere was also great, clean, comfortable, and perfect for both casual meals and special occasions.
One of the biggest highlights was the fresh sashimi. It was high quality, fresh, and beautifully presented, which is a huge plus for a BBQ restaurant.
Overall, this is easily one of the best Japanese BBQ spots in the area. Great service, amazing food, and a fantastic atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a premium BBQ experience.
To start they have separate counter in front for cold appetizers like salmon carpaccio which was delicious and clam, jellyfish, salad, sauces and desserts. We mostly tried everything on menu but a few things which stood out were boneless short rib, just melt in mouth thinly cut meat, maki sushi was amazing and caviar was nice touch. Chicken skewer was surprisingly good. I would definitely recommend mentaiko udon it’s a creamy fish roe sauce with udon noodles. Brisket was nice with garlic sauce. Their sesame sauce was really rich and creamy, miso bbq hit the right spot and yakinaku was perfect too. Most things on the menu were perfect. Yuzu calpis which will be extra was refreshing.
I mostly visit AYCE to eat crème brûlée and it was nice too. Only one thing which I did not like on menu has to be ice cream. We had mango and strawberry and I’m not even joking both tasted similar and I’m trying to be polite but it was one of the most cheap tasting ice cream I had. I think instead of multiple flavours of low quality they can focus on 1 or 2 flavours with high quality but again that’s just a suggestion but other than that everything was perfect. Servers were quick and staff, orders were taken at timely manner and staff was attentive.
For the main, beef, chicken, pork, and seafood have some choices with house yakiniku or miso sauce. All food is presented in small portions and prepared freshly.
The staffs are friendly, providing a positive and welcoming service. The dining atmosphere is excellent.
We have a pleasant experience in this restaurant and definitely like to return.
You can’t order through a device but only through a server but it worked fine as they were really attentive and friendly.
We loved the beef cuts, miso soup, the crispy taco, sushi, the ice cream and don’t remember anything we didn’t like.
It really is all about having a good experience and kingyu definitely gave us that. It was over a month ago but I only remember having fun.
The location itself is nicely renovated inside – you wouldn’t guess that it used to be a Carter’s babies and kids store when you step inside. But I guess that makes sense since there isn’t really a proper kitchen, as it’s a BBQ and the customer does most of the cooking. There’s two entrances, one at the front and one at the back – and of course plenty of parking in the lot just behind the building.
Unfortunately, the visit was characterized by waiting and more waiting. I was there at 4pm on a Sunday, and it was less than half full – yet it took quite some time for someone to finally take our order. And equally long for anyone to return in order for us to order again. It’s an AYCE – you don’t want to spend half the time sitting around waiting, you wanna be eating! And furthermore, no one took the time to ask me if I wanted another drink when my beer was finished. So overall below average to poor experience with the waitstaff. Honestly not even sure who was our official server, maybe it’s just a group effort? Either way, felt neglected.
The food itself was good! In terms of the meat offerings I would say not particularly different from the other Japanese BBQ restaurant in town nor the Korean BBQ that come to mind. That said everything was delicious. The house marinated kalbi was the standout to me. It’s like a wan kalbi. There is a buffet style set up where you can get your own side dishes – the sprouts and potato were much to my liking.
In short – nice restaurant, certainly a good choice for BBQ in Waterloo but unlikely that I will be back given the somewhat disappointing experience and the other options in town.
