Kimlee Vietnamese Restaurant: Best Pho in town
Kimlee Vietnamese Cuisine, 1561 US-209, Ste B2, Millersburg, PA …
Reviews
The space was slightly spartan, but it was very clean, the seats were comfortable, and the service was excellent.
2022 update: still the best Pho around. The tofu and Veggie is one of my favorites and the grilled pork spring rolls are to die for.
I had their Angus Steak Pho as a combo, which included egg rolls and a drink. Everything came out quickly, despite the place being pretty full. The food was great, service excellent, and it gave just a taste of what Kimlee has been sharing with the folks in Linglestown for years… very excited to go back and try some of their other offerings, and glad to have something new and different in our small town.
Welcome to Millersburg!
Note: We got this to go. This means a bit of a build your own bowl style meal. Also, the Angus beef comes raw because it cooks in the broth. So keep that in mind if you have to drive very far. I recommend either immediately dropping your meat in the broth while you are there or bringing a cooler to put it on ice. if you choose the ice method, just make sure to bring your broth to a boil at home in a pot before either putting the meat in or pouring over in a bowl.
The menu comes in a nice folio cover, consistent with the quality statement the establishment attempts to convey. The menu is well organized and easy to navigate. Each menu items can be referenced using index, English, or Vietnamese. Select items are also illustrated with photos.
We ordered 1 appetizer and 3 noodle dishes:
A2. Spring Rolls (2) $3.75
S1. Hue-Style Beef Noodle Soup $8.95
V1. Kimlee’s Special Vermicelli $10.95
V4. Sliced Grilled Pork & Fried Shrimp Paste Vermicelli $8.50
As shown in my pics. Every dish was executed nicely. I’ve never had S1 in any Vietnamese restaurant before so it was an adventure. The broth was very spicy and very tantalizing with a fusion of many flavors. The beef came in at least 3 different renditions – sliced beef, meat balls, and cold cut. The only thing I didn’t care about was the [Hue-style] noodle. I’d rather it be pho or something that has more texture. I’ll see if I can customize it next time…
Both of the vermicelli dishes came with a protein calls “fried shrimp paste”. I’ve never had this in a Vietnamese restaurant. The closest thing I can relate to is the Chinese bean curd dim sum roll and the Japanese fish cake. But I loved it.
3 staff were serving the tables while we were there. They were all friendly and everyone of them attended our table multiple times.
Overall, I was very impressed that the establishment has successfully elevated a cheap ethnic eat to a level of quality in all aspects. I commend the management and its staff. I will definitely be back for more. I highly recommend!
Although prices have risen everywhere including here, still one of the best bowls of pho in the area!!
