All dishes were great. I liked particularly the rump cap, the gai yang, and monkfish curry.
Pad ped of cull yaw is spicy. It’s nice if you’re sharing across 2-3 people but was too spicy for one.
Walk-in only.
The food is fantastic – my favourites are the gai yang, mutton sai oua and claypot glass noodles. I’ve tried the cull yaw and cumin skewer but I think it’s just okay. Service can be a bit hit and miss, but overall still good. Food is fantastic so would recommend coming.
Lines can get pretty long before opening, so keep that in mind before visiting. Try to get the kitchen seating if you can—it is such an incredible experience to watch the chefs masterfully prepare each dish.
Every dish I ordered was incredible, and as a solo diner, felt pretty welcome here. Must-get dishes include the claypot noodles, gai yang, and the shan broth (pork soup).
The dishes were strong. Very pork heavy menu. The highlights were the pork loin (the best pork dish I’ve ever had), jowl (the first bites were better than the last, which were chewy), sticky rice, and crab glass noodles. I didn’t know pork could be so good and the loin completely blew me away with how tender and tasty it was. They say it can take up to 45 minutes to cook so I’d recommend ordering it as soon as you’re seated.
Service was great with all the staff being friendly and attentive. They just get the ambience right – you feel like you’re at a trendy restaurant when eating here.
We sat at the basement which was noisy and had low light, making it hard to have a conversation and see what we were having.
Analise our table-in-charge was really attentive and thoughtful. She waived off the charge for the greens for us. Greatly appreciated her service.
As Kiln only accept walk ins, there was a 35min wait for a table of 3 which went quite quickly and we were seated downstairs.
We ordered a combination of small and large plates and the food arrived throughout lunch.
I was actually quite disappointed with the food. Their signature pad ped of cull yaw was so spicy that it ruined our palate as our tongues were burning so much. As a South Asian, I love my spice and that was way too much. A little less spice and pepper would’ve made it so much more enjoyable. As John Dory fans, we were looking forward to tasting the slow grilled fish and waited 45mins for it to be prepared. It really wasn’t that great, quite salty, a little undercooked and as it was a very small sized fish, there were more bones than flesh.
The sticky rice also was very dry and hard. It looked and tasted as if it had been out for a while. So we asked for it to be changed but it made no difference. The brown rice was similar, hard and dry.
We had ordered the glass noodles with crab only and without pork, that was actually quite nice. The stir fried autumn greens were also tasty. The cockles and Todoli citrus salad were average.
The cocktails weren’t bad and the service quite good. It was busy so there was a buzzy atmosphere too. But definitely not worth the hype. As a foodie I didn’t enjoy the flavours. So, not sure if I’ll be visiting again anytime soon.
Came with my friend and we sat upstairs in front of the kitchen (I’d say the best spot to be)
Food tasted amazing, chefs were super friendly and were telling us all sorts about the dishes and what was being cooked
Really fun evening with some amazing flavours!
(Just get there a little early to queue up and maybe put your name down to get a text when to come back)
The barbecue beef was the best thing we had. I could have ordered 6 orders of it and people would have been happy. The shrimp relish was my favorite personal choice. The heat was dialed up to perfection.
