We visited on a weekday close to 3pm and there was absolutely nobody there. The restaurant had a bar where you can order drinks but we decided to take to go.
My hubby and I ordered 1 lb of brisket (took the option of moist vs lean), whole chicken, sliced brisket sandwich, brussel sprouts and potato salad. They gave us bbq sauce, pickled red onions, and white bread on the side.
The brisket was tender and moist like it should be and just melted in my mouth. The chicken was also juicy and flavorful. Not overly smokey like other bbq spots that we have been to. The potato salad was seasoned well to include the brussel sprouts.
The reason I did not rate it 5 stars because of the price. You will see what I’m talking about when you check out the menu….we will come back and try other items on the menu.
They were pretty stingy with the food portions, ordered a two meat plate. Came with two meatless ribs from the edge I asked if they can do center cut he said you’ll only get one.
Brisket a few slices too, so I upgraded to a three meat he added two more slices of brisket lol at this point I’m like a whatever just laughing.
Ordered a half chicken plate and a 2LB Dino rib 90 percent of that rib was fat. I would stay away from that rib.
Paid $140.00
Definitely didn’t get a bag for the buck
Today we went in, went through the line, got our food, and drinks; but all of the pickles onions and togo boxes are gone. The coffee barbecue sauce we love, was gone. Well it’s not completely gone, but you must go back through the line to ask for that particular sauce and they give you a little sample cup of it… even though we just spent $135 for the two of us to eat (my husband ordered the beef ribs plate , not realizing it was $37 per pound not $37 per plate)! Same with the pickles , onions, and Togo boxes. So yes, we were rather irritated. Then while we were having our meal, a kid constantly came by and asked us if we needed anything. I counted at least 6 times where he was standing over us. He had been sitting down eating when we got there, so I honestly was taken back when he first stepped up to our table.
The times when I did need something ( like the sauce and to go plate), he was nowhere in site. We were not used to having a waiter at this restaurant and he never formally introduced himself as such; so we were unsure what he was doing. I went up empty my tray at the end of our meal, and he met me at the trash can, and mumbled something. I said excuse me, and he stated he would take my tray. It was just weird.
Due to all of these changes, we have decided we won’t be back. Don’t get me wrong. We love the food, but all of these changes made our lunch feel rushed, and not pleasurable. Every time we were in conversation, someone was standing over us asking if we needed anything. I don’t like to spend that kind of money to have an experience like this. If you open a restaurant one way, and people are used to it; then maybe an announcement should be made stating changes are coming. Or maybe just a sign up front saying it’s now a restaurant with wait service and no more self service. One other note, tipping used to be for services rendered. We cannot stand the fact that restaurants are now asking for tips before you’ve tasted the food or even sat down.
Brisket is perfect as always
Highly recommend broccoli rice casserole!
The brisket was also a little light. 14 oz instead of 16oz. Do better Killen’s. This is not the service I expect. Please reach out and make this right.
