Kilauea Fish Market serves some of the freshest, most flavorful food we had on the island. The hot poke wraps were super yummy, healthy, and truly one of a kind. The snapper fish plate was perfectly cooked and incredibly fresh. You can really taste the quality and care in every bite. Highly recommend this spot—an absolute must-try if you’re visiting Kauai!
The market fish was either ahi or stripped marlin, and while the ahi was more expensive, it looked really good sitting in the case. We had an order of that (seared) with brown rice and mac/potato salad. We also ordered the ono tacos with a side of beans and cheese. The total before tip was about $55.
Our food came relatively quickly (about 10-15 minutes after we ordered). After going back inside to grab our two plates of food, we sat outside at one of the many tables they have set up.
The ahi was cooked perfectly, and it was butter-tender. That on its own was a 5-star piece of fish. The wasabi aioli it came with was a perfect complement. The mac/potato salad lacked seasoning, so that landed a little flat. And, well, brown rice is brown rice.
The fish tacos were fine. They came with flour tortillas instead of corn. The one was good, and the portion side was generous with good fillings on top of the fish. The beans and cheese were not your typical pinto bean, but more along the lines of a chili bean, and a generous bowl of that. Solid, but nothing too exciting.
All in all, we’ve struggled finding good places to eat on the north shore, and this is a solid bet. We would definitely eat here again.
What we got: Garlic grilled shrimp plate with jasmine rice and a salad & grilled chicken teriyaki plate with brown rice and a salad. Proper food portions, solid flavors, generous sauce portions – would happily pay $41ish for these two meals again. These ingredients were some of the freshest we had during our recent trip.
Atmosphere: Tight ordering and pick up space, but they have a decently sized, covered, outdoor dining area for you to take advantage of the Hawaii weather.
Service: Outstanding. The guy was very helpful and seamlessly taking care of the long line and take out orders – all with a smile and true Aloha spirit. We waited about 15-20 minutes for our food which is incredibly impressive with the amount of orders ahead of us.
