Amazing service, nice vibe. But the sushi (and food) quality is just okay compared to the price I paid for.
The sushi has rice that has very great density (not too pressed) so that you can try the fish flavor well. Rice is well seasoned, and the temperature is great. However, I do not think they handle fish well to emphasize its flavor. Let me be clear: the egg sushi was terrible. Did you soak in corn syrup? It was too sweet, so my mouth was numb. Miso soup was saltier than it should be. Takoyaki is pretty good (quite large pieces of octopus).
They provide actual wasabi (not the powdered mix of horse radish).
The paid parking lot is right across the street, but if you are coming here only for sushi, I would not recommend.
Vibe is great for business meeting, date, and family. Quiet and modernized.
The service was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and kind. They explained the menu to us very patiently because we had some questions. They made us feel comfortable and they did not rush us. The food was amazing and very fresh. We ordered many things. The appetizers were great, especially the fried chicken (Karaage) which was crispy and hot. The beef tataki was very tender and the sauce was delicious. Also the sushi was excellent. The fish was very fresh and high quality. The unagi and tuna were my favorite. Finally, the dessert was also very beautiful. We had the mochi and the fried ice cream with strawberries. It was so good.
The restaurant was not very busy, I was seated right away at the bar. The atmosphere was quiet and serene.
I ordered the Omakase nigiri. It was phenomenal! Well worth the just above zero walk to get there. The waitress was very polite and kind. Would definitely return.
I was there with a party of 8 for lunch, and my check with a 20% tip averaged $38pp. We all ordered lunch specials and soft drinks, nothing else was ordered. If I walked away having spectacular food, I wouldn’t balk at this price point, but the food was mediocre at best, some things were really bad. The sushi is just ok. I’m by no means a sushi connoisseur, but their sushi was no tastier, or more creative than any sushi I’ve had in Pgh. It was on par with Whole Foods sushi. If you told me that they source their fish better, are more sustainable, etc. and that drives the price up, I can believe that and accept that results in a higher price point. However, the teriyaki lunch specials, chicken and “steak” were horrible. My first thought when the plates were dropped was that it looked like a microwave “tv dinner” meal. I’ve never seen a chicken breast so small and the teriyaki sauce had very little flavor. The steak had the appearance and texture of a round steak, about 1/4 inch thick, but cut on the bias to make the piece appear to have come from a thick steak. The portion size was tiny, my average sized 9 year old son ate the entire meal and was still hungry-this meal cost $28 and came with miso soup, white rice, a single sprig of broccoli, a few quarter-sized piece of bell pepper and 3 small cubes of potato. I left there with such buyers remorse after I paid the check.
This place is traditional decorated, very cool atmosphere, clean, and has good service. I just won’t go back when I’ve found so many other options in and around the city for literally a fraction of the price.
Lots of ethnic folks dining, which was a “go” for me!
