Third sushi place went to on New Years Eve. First place had a strange vibe so we left, second was closed… was glad because I really wanted to try this place. Right away it just felt right… the place has a clean, modern, casual no-nonsense setting. No sign in sheet or iPad to make you feel like a number. They just greet you, like how it should be. You got questions? The owner has answers and will happily tell you everything you want to know about the food and where it came from, how it’s made, etc, etc. They just got fresh Bluefin Tuna in from Baja and I don’t know much about Sashimi but decided to splurge a little and it was delicious!!! The fried chicken Karaage is moist and tender… so good, got two orders. The Chicken Katsu Curry, very good. The Salmon and Avocado Roll very good and the YSC Cilantro Roll excellent. Good Saki. Lindsey, our server was a joy. Sorry we didn’t have enough time to come back before leaving California!

At 22 for a roll expectations are high.
Unless you have no other place to go I dont know why you would choose this place. Salmon lover is a copy of Salmon lime roll from Dojo sushi in LA.
My roll over all construction wasn’t brilliant.
Quality was fine nothing outstanding. Based on eating sushi in michelin star restaurants to eating it in Japan from Tushima to Tokyo. This place leave a lot to be desired. I gave it 3.8 stars.
Service was lacking perhaps they were short staffed.

I absolutely loved the meal and the employees. I splurged on the Chef’s choice nine piece nigiri plate with a pint of draft Sapporo, and it was delicious. The music was chill and Pop 80’s while not too loud. The sushi was incredibly fantastic, and well worth the price of admission.
Chef Steve Seo, made me a very memorable meal.

The aburi garlic butter and block cod nigiri is worth it to come and leave. Kamikaze roll and salmon skin handrolls were good. Sushi chefs were kind and quiet. Server was terrible as she ignored us the entire time and cleared plates of the family with plenty of room at their table behind us while we had zero space, had to put away our own menus to the small counter next to us, give our dirty dishes to the sushi chefs to get them cleared, or put them into the spots next to us. We were the only 2 parties in the restaurant and as she walked to the table, don’t acknowledge or help us. But, I would sit at the sushi bar and eat those nigiri but just those two.

My husband called in and ordered the chirashi bowl and the YSC roll. I went to pick it up and when they handed me the receipt, the chirashi bowl was priced at $45. I showed him that their website where you order online says it’s $36. He looked at the menu and just said that it’s supposed to be $45 and their price online was incorrect. They then charged me $45 instead of honoring the price online. I should’ve just ordered it through their website and paid $36. It’s baffling to me that a restaurant wouldn’t honor their price and make a customer upset over $9.
Well it’s clear that they value saving a buck because the food is subpar. You would think that a $75 meal for 2 people would either be a lot of food or very good, but it was neither. I’ve spent less at a sushi spot in Manhattan for way better food. There are a ton of sushi spots in San Diego that are far better – save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else.
Food = 2/5, Service = 1/5. Overall is 2/5 because I try to keep my reviews based on food quality and value.

I got the Party Rock Roll, and I can confidently say it was one of the best sushi rolls I have ever had! Super fresh and delicious! The service was great, and the restaurant was clean and classy. I will definitely be coming here again soon!

Hands down some of the best sushi I’ve had in a long time. Every piece was incredibly fresh, perfectly balanced, and clearly made with care by Itamae Steve Seo.
The fish melted, the rice was spot-on, and even the simplest rolls tasted elevated.
The owner personally came to our table in the end to introduce himself. Service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. You can tell this place takes pride in both the food and the experience. Cozy atmosphere.
If you’re even remotely serious about sushi with family and friends.. this place is a must.

Came in here at random and I’m glad I did. We ordered a variety of nigiri and all of it was fresh and flavorful. The agedashi tofu is simple and also delicious. They make some things here a little sweeter than most places, like the sushi rice, and it works well.

This restaurant is super clean. I had chirashi bowel for $21. There are 8 pieces of sashimi of different fish, one shrimp, a small piece of grilled eel and two egg rolls. The salmon is so good. My friend had the salmon sashimi which is great too. But their restroom floor was sticky.

Was looking for a decent Japanese restaurant for lunch while visiting San Diego. Found out that most of these restaurants open at 5 p.m. and are more inclined toward the night party vibes. On the other hand, there are plenty of fast-food places that are more affordable but don’t look right for a family lunch.
So this place looked like something in between and pretty spot-on.
For the most part, it is. Sushi is great — well-deserved 5 stars. Bento boxes are not, maybe around 3.
Overall, good experience.
