Such a cool spot! Great food, strong drinks, and a really relaxed vibe. The staff was friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived. You can pull up by boat or ride in on a motorcycle, which makes it even more fun. And in the summer, their Tiki bar is awesome — the perfect place to grab a tropical drink and just chill by the water. Definitely one of my favorite places to hang out. I’ll be back for sure!

Went with friends for ayce ribs and crab legs. They really enjoyed it. I didn’t have a big enough appetite so I went straight for the perch since you don’t see that too often. So good… lightly battered, tartar sauce was great (I wanted to steal the whole bottle ) and potato pancakes were delicious! Our server was great! Friendly, joked with us and had refills lined up and ready to go!

First visit, great eats! Sorry to miss their bbq ribs, that’s only offered on Fri and Sat. Burgers, fries and wings were all good!

“Kief’s Reef is a high-velocity pillar of the Fox River. Food: 5/5. Service: 5/5. Atmosphere: 5/5. In an era of chains, finding a family-owned spot that has dominated for 30 years is absolute ‘Godnews.’ Their world-famous Friday Fish Fry is the neighbor-proof gold standard, and the homemade pizza with that freshly rolled crust is a masterclass in integrity. Whether you’re docking the boat for a beer or hitting the sand volleyball courts, the service is fluent and urgent. If you want the authentic ‘Northwoods’ vibe right here in the Corridor, this is the only seat you need to be in. A verified 10/10.”

I thought it was the best fish fry in the area. Really nice batter fried slender cod fillets. Fresh bread, nice potato pancakes with sour cream and apple sauce and all you can eat salad bar. Our server was fantastic. Was there for every empty drink, empty salad plate and when I needed more fish. Great service and the place was packed. There’s some reason why this place is so crowded. I’ll be back. Edit… I came back and the Cod was night and day. It was so over cooked it was like a strip of jerky inside of a battered shell. I really don’t know what to think. Not sure if I will come back as it was so crowded and I had to wait so long to eat and the fried Cod was so bad.

Came in with a group of people last week. The food was ok, might have been better. We had the fish fry and sat at the bar. The male bartender was so drunk and disrespectful!
Edit 2/7/26
Decided to try one more time with friends. The same male bartender was there clearly drunk and disrespectful and rude. I cant believe a restaurant lets employees drink. I will be calling to get the restaurant looked into.

Kief’s is a local chain o lakes style boaters bar with a great throwback vibe. Once inside it’s pretty clear this place really has a lot going on! From the old school salad bar to the slot machines and what looks like a really good summertime outdoor patio. It’s has a buzz that’s fun to be a part of.
For as busy as it was, the wait staff was very friendly and outgoing, and I felt well attended too.
I was most impressed with the homemade bread, something that I completely did not expect! The wings (garlic parmesan and buffalo) were also excellent, and I even enjoyed the salad bar! The beer battered Fried shrimp were good but needed a little “something” in the breading to give it more flavor, and the “potato pancakes” reminded me more of flat disk shaped tater tots, rather than the shredded potato latkes that I was expecting. On my second visit we tried the pizza, fish fry and a burger. The pizza is just okay, I wouldn’t order it again, but both the fish fry and burger were excellent, with the burger being the best main menu item I’ve had here.

We had to try the wings since they were voted the Best in McHenry. They’re very good, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The homemade sauces were tasty too. My husband got the pork tenderloin, which he is a pretty big critic of, and said it was very good – this is a huge compliment coming from him. I had the steak wrap, the meat was tender and flavorful. I wasn’t sure about bringing our kids but they have a children’s menu and the staff was welcoming of them. We would frequent this restaurant again!

Went for the Friday fish fry! Definitely worth the trip! Get there early is all I can tell you! We got there around 5:15 and when we left there was nowhere to sit and nowhere to park outside and it was -10°! Should tell you ball you need to know!
