We make a stop at Khu Larb each time we visit the area, because the food is so good. I ordered the avocado and scallop curry to try and it was delicious! The curry was sweet with just a little spiciness and everything was perfectly cooked. We’ll definitely be dining there again the next time we’re on the west coast!

Oh Khu Larb…how we love you!

We make a special point to visit Khu Larb during every visit to Port Townsend and this last Christmas holiday visit was no different. However, unlike our prior “visits”, instead of just getting take out, for the first time we actually dined in the restaurant and it raised the experience to a whole other level.

Not only is the food fantastic but the ambience is warm and welcoming and the service is friendly, without being overbearing or unprofessional.

(My favorite Thai dish is Khao Soi (also called “Chaing Mai Noodles” by Americans), which is a rich, coconut curry noodle soup with both wet noodles in the broth as well as crispy noodles on top and not only has incredible flavor but also amazing texture. It is originally from northern Thailand, where Chaing Mai is the capital, hence the American name. (Chaing Mai means “Rose of the north”, so given the rose motif in their logo, I’m assuming Khu Larb is northern Thai inspired. I’m fact, we were really impressed that our Caucasian server had actually been to Chaing Mai and so knew exactly the dish I was asking about.))

We are professional food and travel writers, food judges, and food and drink tour guides and have eaten at a lot of Thai places around the world and can honestly say that Khu Larb is one of our all-time favorites.

During a previous day trip to Port Townsend, we discovered Khu Larb Thai Restaurant, but at that time we had already eaten lunch and couldn’t try it. On August 2nd, we made a point to return and finally experience what the restaurant had to offer.

Upon entering Khu Larb Thai Restaurant, the decor immediately stands out, featuring a variety of art pieces on the walls and woodwork with intricate carvings. The tables are attractively arranged, with flower petals placed beneath the glass tops, contributing to the overall aesthetic. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, creating a comfortable dining environment. While the restaurant does not have a formal dress code, the elegant setting suggests that casual but neat attire is most appropriate for dining here.

One observation I had was that the carpets were quite stained and noticeable. While this didn’t detract from the beauty of the restaurant or the outstanding food, it did make me wonder why the carpeting hadn’t been replaced, still I am willing to give this restaurant five stars.

The menu at Khu Larb Thai Restaurant offered a wide variety of dishes, including both classic Thai options we recognized and some unique items that were new to us. With so many appealing choices available, making a decision was challenging, but our hunger helped us make a quick decision.

I ordered the “Street Noodles”, hubby ordered the “Katiem.”

My dish arrived with glossy, wide rice noodles, each strand perfectly cooked and tossed with fluffy scrambled egg, tender slices of chicken (my protein of choice), and a generous amount of fragrant Thai seasoning. The noodles rested on a vibrant bed of fresh spinach, which I had chosen instead of the usual lettuce. The meal looked simple, but as soon as I took a bite, the flavors exploded, savory, aromatic, and deeply satisfying.

My hubby’s lunch was a feast for the senses: tender chicken smothered in a rich garlic and black pepper sauce, garnished with bright green onions, fresh cilantro, and a crown of crispy fried garlic. The colorful medley was served atop a bed of spinach (though lettuce is the standard), accompanied by crisp-tender broccoli, carrots, snow peas, and a side of rice. Both dishes were so delicious that we couldn’t choose a favorite—we shared each plate, savoring each and every bite.

We truly appreciated our server, Adeline, who was warm and personable—she struck the perfect balance with her friendly conversation, never being intrusive. Her attentive service meant we always felt cared for, without ever feeling overwhelmed. We’re genuinely grateful for her kindness and professionalism; she made our dining experience even more special!

In conclusion, Khu Larb Thai Restaurant is a place that I highly recommend trying, and we definitely plan to return.

The restaurant is located at 225 Adams Street, Port Townsend, WA, just off Water Street. It is within walking distance of many attractions. Street parking is available, although it can be challenging to find during the busy season.

The food was tasty. The staff were prompt and friendly. There was an off duty staff person who appeared to be management who sat at the bar while talking on speaker phone. They moved in and out from behind the bar, to the kitchen, and back to the bar stool. It’s was incredibly annoying. I’d definitely do do take-out in the future.

Absolutely annihilated our meal. I’m normally a *Pad Thai every time* kind of Thai enthusiast, but I took a chance this time and I’m SO glad I did. Nam Tom (with chicken) starter followed by Kow Soi (with beef) knocked my socks off. Lemon ginger tea will enhance the flavors of everything you’re eating.

Portions are big, service was great, vibe is so cute yet causal- legitimately can’t wait to go back.

We’ve only had Khao Soi one other time, at a highly rated restaurant in Las Vegas – it was very good in Vegas, and the Khao Soi here blew that out of the water! So delicious, flavourful, and perfectly spiced.

We also had mango sticky rice, thai tea, and cha manao. Everything we had was amazing!

Portions were big, we were able to split the entree and dessert between 2 people.

Really nice decor, as well.

Best dish: Scallops and avocado in a green curry coconut sauce. Beans, bell peppers, peas and carrots included as well. The warm avocado in this dish is unexpectedly good. Everything messes together. We spooned up the bottom of the bowl. Pad woon sen is also good. The Khu Karb lager on tap is light and refreshing, balancing any heat from the curry sauce. Too bad we didn’t have room for dessert.

The staff welcome everyone warmly and service is quick and efficient.

Wonderful place!

This is likely the best Thai food on the Olympic Peninsula, and perhaps the entire state.

I’ll let others talk about the other dishes, but I’m here to say that the Pad Thai is extraordinary. Perfect balance of flavor. Not overly vinegary like many. I get it with beef and 3 star heat. It is what I hope for when ordering Pad Thai and is what I measure all other Thai restaurants against.

Friendly staff. Quick service.

This place is kind of cute. It has a couple of tables and benches outside where you can sit and wait for your table.
Friendly staff. The food was good but a bit too salty for me.
We ordered drunken noodles, garlic green beans, yellow curry fried rice, and spicy seafood combination stir-fried. Our group enjoyed the drunken noodle. Garlic green beans were delicious but a bit uncooked, spicy combination, and the yellow curry fried rice had lots of aroma and flavors.
Overall pretty good for a small town like Port Townsend.

What an amazing find for dinner before the ferry ride back to Whidbey. Delicious food and the friendliest servers make this a top spot to enjoy Thai cuisine, not only in Port Townsend, but among all of Puget Sound. Absolutely delicious!
