Key & Cleaver have the most amazing burgers you will ever have, IN YOUR LIFE. they are mouth-watering inducing and so full of flavor. We had burger and fries, as well as a couple of yummy beverages. One of our favorite things about this place is that everything sourced is local. They’re keeping the business in the community and we love & appreciate that. It’s a small business run by a husband and wife team who knows exactly what they are doing. Customer service is a high point as well, you are greeted the moment you walk in the door, and they say goodbye when you leave, makes you feel special. This is hands-down our favorite place in San Diego, and we can’t wait to go back!

While the vibe is great, the food is mediocre. The beef patties are dry, and buffalo sauce on blue cheese burger feels unnecessary. The rosemary potato fries, while plentiful, have lots of salt. The double smash burger has burned meat. So my rating is at 4 stars, an average between food quality (3) and atmosphere (5).

Best veggie burger in town imo. Rosemary salted fries are next level, with the option of tallow fries. Great local beer selection. Awesome place to stop by for community activities like bar trivia or watching a game with the crew.

Great burgers, both of the regular and smash varieties! Locally sourced beef and local beers on tap. Staff is stupendously friendly. They have one of the most interesting fries, they’re cut in a unique curved-thin wedge shape that makes it fry up with a good mix of crispiness and meatiness. Hard to explain, worth checking out!

Small spot with a big bar and about five tables, all full when we arrived. Great decor and strong AC. The menu features various burgers, including seasonal specials. My husband got the Black & Blue Burger, and I had the Swiss Mushroom Burger. The guy taking our order was confident, highlighting their local ingredients – beef from Julian, buns from La Jolla, and homemade sauces.
I ordered my burger well-done, expecting it to be dry, but it was surprisingly juicy! The wait was about 20 minutes, but totally worth it. The portions were big, and my burger had mushrooms and garlic cream sauce—so delicious, I finished every bite. My husband loved his too, saying it’s one of the best burgers in San Diego. Even the fries were unique, somewhere between fries and wedges. Highly recommend!

Fantastic experience! Was in town to visit my daughter and we love a good burger and heard this one was great….it did not disappoint.

We ordered the smash burger (she likes things more well done) and the BBQ Bacon CB. Both were really great. The BBQ burger was so juicy and was actually better than I had read it would be. The fries are not to be forgotten. Crispy-ish on the outside with a nice softness on the inside. They were excellent.

The owners are the sweetest humans ever! I have celiac disease and follow a strict gluten free diet and they were so accommodating. We got wings, a burger, and the fried chicken sandwich. Super reasonable prices. I forgot to take any photos because we were watching football and talking. But if I could afford it I’d never cook dinner again and eat here every night. Even the other patrons were nice. 10/10.

If you love screens, this place has them. Went for lunch. They should play some music or something. Sports sports sports and more sports. Not everyone likes sports! Anyways, the burger was fine. Good even. But not exceptional. The meat needs seasoning (if it has some, I couldn’t tell). Lots of reviews say this place has the “best burger of my life”. Well, these people must have had some mediocre lives. Portion size was excellent. Fries we’re also exceptional. Cute place. Instagrammy wall for “that photo opp”. The salt shakers and hotsauce bottles were dirty / greasy / slimy. I had to wipe them off. Not a good sign for overall cleanliness. Great service. Overall I give them a score of “meh”.
