Really wanted to grab a burger for lunch on my trip to Lansing, and so glad I found Kewpee. The place was packed, and it was already a good sign to know that it was so loved by the locals. I ordered their classic burger with fries and got to try also their Miami version of it. I loved both so much, and Miami probably beats the OG for me due to the texture of the patty (it’s more like a smash burger style). Their key and secret ingredient that seals that deal for me is their incredible olive sauce that makes this burger experience so unique. On top of everything, the service was on another level. Kind, chatty, and so caring and friendly. If you’re a burger fan like me and in Lansing, Michigan, this place is a must-try .

Got the infamous olive burger. It was incredible. Patties are cooked well done but and they’re perfect. The olive sauce is awesome.
Fries were bland. Kinda disappointing. Should’ve gotten the sweet potato fries.
Simple service – order at the register and they bring out the food to you.

We recently stopped by Weston’s Kewpee Sandwich Shop in downtown Lansing as a family of three—two adults and our kid—for the first time, and while it took a bit to get our bearings, the food made it well worth the visit. As a historic spot that’s been slinging burgers since 1923, it has that classic, no-frills vibe. But as newcomers, we felt a little lost when we walked in; no one greeted us or explained the ordering process (which seems to be counter-style). Luckily, a kind regular noticed our confusion and gave us the lowdown, even recommending the King Oliver Olive Burger as a must-try. Shoutout to that stranger for saving the day!
We ordered a solid spread to share: the King Oliver Olive Burger with fries, Parmesan chips, tomato soup, and a grilled cheese for the kid; plus the BBQ burger special and onion rings for the rest of us. The wait for our food was longer than I’d expected—maybe 20-25 minutes on a weekday lunch rush—but everything arrived hot and fresh.
Now, onto the stars of the show: the food. That King Oliver Olive Burger? Phenomenal. The patty is ground in-house, and it’s topped with their famous olive sauce—a creamy, tangy mix of mayo, green olives, and just the right kick that had us all hooked. It’s not your standard burger topping, but it elevates the whole thing to something addictive and unique to Michigan spots like this. I usually go for medium-rare, but burgers here come well-done by default with no customization option, so keep that in mind if you’re picky about doneness. Still, it was juicy enough not to dry out.
The BBQ burger special was smoky and flavorful, a nice contrast to the olive one, and those onion rings? Crispy outside, tender inside—total crowd-pleaser (the kid couldn’t get enough). The fries were solid (crinkle-cut, perfectly salted), and the Parmesan chips added a cheesy, garlicky crunch that we devoured. But the real surprise was the tomato soup and grilled cheese combo: the soup tasted straight-up homemade, rich and packed with fresh tomato flavor, not that watery canned stuff. Paired with the buttery grilled cheese, it felt like ultimate comfort food—perfect for a picky eater.

While in Lansing visiting a friend in the hospital, my husband started craving for an olive burger. His memory took him back to his college days at Michigan State. So, I was convinced to try one. I’ve already formed a picture in my head what the taste would be like, but it didn’t match up to my imagination. Instead of the olives mixed in the meat, it was in the sauce which was so, so. What made up for my disappointment was the wait staff and fries. The environment was friendly, clean with lots of space, outside dining, and large size booths.

I got a chicken finger basket. Fries where great and not over/under cooked. Chicken was very good. Not to much breading. Cooked with a slight crunch. Portions where correct. Equal amounts of chicken and fries. Not 15 handfuls of fries you wont eat anyway. Ill be back. Price was good. Not crazy. In and out. Place seemed clean and we did not wait long even though it was PACKED. Thanks again everyone at Kewpees

I managed to make it to Kewpee shortly before they closed for the day, and they were gracious enough to still serve me. I had the kolossal olive burger and it was delicious. There’s a decent amount of history in this place, and it’s cool to try what might be one of the oldest olive burgers around. The size was large, but not overly so, and it was cooked perfectly. The olive sauce was super savory, and gave great flavor. The fries were also excellent. I’d definitely come here more if it was closer and had less restrictive hours, but it’s worth a little trip.

I had heard from everyone around town that I needed to check out Kewpees and get an olive burger. I finally made it in and I was not disappointed. The olive burger was excellent. We had a big group and they were very busy. We had to wait a while but the burger was made fresh and worth the wait.

A great gem in downtown Lansing! We love olive burger and this is one of the best places to grab some. Service was topnotch and the owners of the place are the friendliest. Love the vibe of this place. It has the traditional set up, but its well-maintained and clean.
