Thank you for your response, Ms. Welborn. I need to correct your stated information. I placed your response words in double quotes and followed up with the technically corrected information.
“As for the water, we do charge a small $.25 fee to help cover the cost of cups and supplies.”
– The issue with the tap water was never about the cost; it is about being transparent and not being sneaky. There are no posted signs indicating a charge. I returned one of the Styrofoam tap water cups to Jessica since we ordered only one tap water. I mentioned to Jessica that we thought one of the cups had the lemonade and would wait until it was ready.
“…about your kale salad (since we were out of potato salad) in which he gave you a free cream horn in return.”
– The kale salad topic was never brought up nor discussed. Since you were out of potato salad, I requested if it would be possible to SUBSTITUTE (not to receive for free) a cream horn. The price for one potato salad side is $3.75 and the price for one cream horn is $3.79. The second person in the party ordered the cucumber salad in place of the potato salad. I need to make it clear to you that nothing was for free in this transaction!
The entire point to my initial review is to let others know that they will enter into a sneaky deal of having to pay for tap water when there are no signs posted for a charge nor verbally stated at the time of ordering. If you are charging for tap water, it becomes a drink and should be posted on your menu.
Original Review:
03/06/2026: Have you ever felt that a service isn’t being transparent? It gives you a sick feeling in the gut… a gut feeling. This was our experience at Ketchie Creek Bakery today. We approached the register where Brenna was all cheery and smiley, trying to make small talk. We ordered our sandwiches, sides, 1 lemonade and 1 tap water. As we’re ordering, there was no verbal confirmation nor was there any display to the customer, validating the order. Two Styrofoam cups were handed to us with lids. After finding a table, we inspected the cups and found both cups were water. The lemonade wasn’t there. Before approaching the counter, I picked up our receipt to verify a lemonade was ordered. It was. However, what I discovered was the CHARGE for tap water! This was the punch in the gut!! There is no place on their menu stating there is a charge for water nor did Brenna state there is a charge for water. For us, it wasn’t the amount; it was the “hiding” the fact there is a charge. My mind goes to: what else is Ketchie not disclosing? This is an example of having no respect for their customers. When I approached the counter to request the lemonade, I spoke with Jessica. She was very understanding about the lemonade which she delivered to our table. (Thank you, Jessica!) With her approach to the lemonade, I decided to share my feedback on the “hidden cost” on water. She indicated she wasn’t the manager. I would need to talk to the assistant manager. He has a personality that shouldn’t be in the public light. He’s an avoider. Jessica would be a MUCH BETTER manager!! This is the reason for the 2-stars instead of the 1-star.
There is no place on their menu stating there is a charge for water nor did Brenna state there is a charge for water. Even as I write this review to share with others who might care about transparency, I’m still sensing the “punched in the gut” feeling.
What are the other things being covered up and not being disclosed to the customer base?
The adult half sandwiches left much to be desired, appeared tossed together, and were soggy. It was a melt and nothing was melted, and it was only cold, sliced chicken. It was simply too many issues for one meal. We won’t be back to this location.
Also, I think we might have come on some sort of bring-your-teen to work day. There were a dozen young people behind the counter with only 3 of them serving customers at any one time. There was one adult staff member doing her very best to guide the young employees, but it looked like herding cats. The sheer quantity of staff milling about was shocking, but what was more astounding is that none of them thought to bring our meals to the table. You’d think they’d serve us just to stop the boredom of standing around and chatting with one another.
I appreciate the vision behind this family-owned business, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark.
For the Parfait we expected a lighter moose, but it was essentially cake inna cup- very thick n sweet. Crème horn was also denser than I expected very heavy and sweet. The amaretto pound cake was dry and tasted only of almond extract. Lemon square I won’t complain i wouldn’t buy it again tho.
I think the staff was very sweet tho nice environment but sheesh yall, im not exaggerating about the sugar. Reminds me of crumbl cookie, idk how people can handle it
Coffee was weak and had to buy a shot of expresso to bolden it up. If you are looking for some pastry, this may be the spot, it all looked delicious.
