As someone who’s Cantonese and has actually worked in wonton noodle shops before, I could tell from the very first bite that this is the real deal. In the context of the U.S., this is an impressively authentic bowl of wonton noodles.
Sure, there are still a few minor things that could be improved, but considering where we are, this flavor already exceeds expectations. I’m more than satisfied.
The portion size is generous, and the wontons are perfectly sized — not oversized like at many other restaurants where you have to split one wonton into two bites. Everything feels balanced and thoughtfully done.
If you care about proper Cantonese wonton noodles, this place is absolutely worth a visit.
pure chinese comfort and nothing more…congee with no fuss, in any way you want it, from the standard chicken congee with 100 year-old-eggs to the more adventurous pork liver and pork stomach. yumm!!!! warm with super clean flavors and the rich texture.
soup noodles are the same way, in every combo. great broth. the side dishes are the ones you never see, like kidney.
it feels like the kitchen growing up. the room is pure diner with no pizazz. full of chinese folk, and families having a saturday morning.
There was one issue, as we found a dead bug inside one of the vegetables in the soup. Since the group we were with are regulars, the staff joked that it meant the vegetables were very fresh. I found this funny, but others may not. The check was a bit confusing since we didn’t receive an itemized receipt, but I don’t think we were overcharged.
I really like the food at Kenny’s Noodle House. The congee is comforting and flavorful, especially the salted pork with preserved egg—one of the best I’ve had. The wonton noodle soup is also excellent—fresh, tasty, and satisfying. This place feels like a true hidden gem. The environment is cozy and reminds me of a classic Cantonese eatery. Service is fast, and prices are reasonable. Definitely one of my favorite spots for authentic Chinese comfort food in Portland!
They have lots of options and ample parking. They offer complimentary hot tea but also have a delicious homemade soy milk that can be served hot or cold. The soymilk is on the sweeter side so for those who like a less sweet one I would steer away from it.
We ordered their braised beef brisket, shrimp wonton + noodles, & shrimp dumplings. We did not try their veggie appetizers but I am sure they are also very good too.
