The Maine Seafood Experience We Came For!
When we planned our trip to Maine, we had one thing at the top of our list—fresh lobster and authentic New England seafood—and this spot absolutely delivered!

We kicked off our meal with drinks: a classic Painkiller cocktail and an Allagash White beer—both perfect for a sunny day by the water. From there, we ordered the crab cakes and clam chowder to start. The crab cakes were honestly some of the crabbiest we’ve ever had—in the best way! Packed with so much real crab meat, it barely seemed like there was anything else holding them together.

The chowder was thinner in consistency than what we’re used to, but the flavor was spot on—rich, savory, and full of that briny, coastal taste we love.

For our entrées, we went straight for the lobster. I had the hot lobster roll, and wow—it was overflowing with lobster meat. It might just be the most lobster I’ve ever had in a roll. Sweet, tender, and buttery—perfection!

My husband ordered the seafood pot pie, which came with a flaky golden crust hiding an entire lobster claw along with more lobster and haddock inside. Rich, hearty, and delicious.

We enjoyed our meal sitting outside by the water, soaking up the sunshine and coastal vibes. This was exactly the kind of seafood experience we came to Maine for—fresh, flavorful, and unforgettable.

Small and nice restaurant on the bank of the river with beautiful views. The food was delicious, but expensive. Good service.

Great atmosphere, nice and bright with wonderful riverside views. The fish and chips were quite a shock for $24.00. Small chicken nuggets pieces with a mediocre batter. The clam chowder was fair and more watery than I am use to. The Rubens was good.

Perched along the Kennebec River, Kennebec Tavern offers some of the best seafood in Maine with a view to match. The ambience is just as impressive as the food: a riverside deck ideal for sunset dining, and a cozy interior that feels warm and welcoming. Attentive service and local charm make the experience complete.
A must-visit for anyone craving fresh seafood and stunning views.

Came here with a group of friends and the seafood was so good and fresh! Also, the fries here are amazing. One person in our party did have a gluten allergy and the kitchen did a great job accommodating. Just keep in mind they do not have separate fryers, for anyone who can’t have gluten. The view of the river was the cherry on top and I definitely recommend coming here! Don’t skip the blueberry pie for dessert.

Went for lunch with a party of 3 on the day after labor day. Nice and quiet plane on the River. We done outside on the Large patio area. Great view.
I had the fried haddock platter at $22. It was a medium portion with ff and Cole slaw. It was fresh. The fries were not quite cooked, but still ok.
We also had mussels, fried calamari, fried clams. Everyone loved their meals.
Our waitresses was awesome, quick, and attentive.

Not a bad place. Decent menu. Food was above average. Would recommend a visit if in the area. Nice location. Lots of seating. Outdoor seating on the river.

We rented their private room for a 90th birthday party on 11/15 for 20 to 25 people. I had two different experiences. The one at the party itself was great. The room was ready, the service was prompt, the food was good, and the staff was friendly and helpful. I have no complaints. However, dealing with the events person, who I believe is an owner, was painful.

I first contacted them from their website on 9/23. I received an email response on 9/26. On 9/27 I emailed advising I would like to reserve their room and asked if they could call me to answer some questions. I heard nothing and followed up on 10/2 asking if she could give me a call to discuss some questions I had. The response was that she was very busy and she asked if we could communicate through email. She did not confirm we had the reservation.

I heard nothing and followed up on 10/10. I emailed asking what needed to be done to finalize the reservation. I heard nothing.

On 10/17 I emailed advising the reservation still had not been finalized, that I still had questions, and that I was worried they were too busy for the party which was now less than a month away. On that day, she finally responded by email that we had the reservation and that they could handle the party. She also told me we could limit menu, but that it had to fit on one page. She said the fall menu would be ready in a week and we would limit that menu. I got the fall menu, electronically in PDF format, almost three weeks later, on 11/7.

They had a 3-page menu with a cover that could not be limited to a single page unless we removed most of the items. Thinking I was helping her because she was so busy, I was able to edit the PDF and delete the items we did not want to offer and remove the prices so our guests would not see them. My version looked EXACTLY like their menu, including the cover. She emailed that she would not use my edited version as it was not what they did and scolded me for my effort. I asked if I could call her to discuss it, she said she was too busy to talk to me and basically told me to use her full menu. She added that she shouldn’t have offered the limited menu, and questioned if she should have declined our party. She continued to admonish me, this time for not following her rules and for asking for too many exceptions. She said I had to adhere to her policies and I was taking too much of her limited time. She went on to say she had a family crisis and that I was adding stress that she could not take.

To be clear, the only thing I was asking for was the limited menu – that she offered! Meanwhile, she would not talk to me on the phone and had a habit of not responding to emails necessitating follow-ups. I did not appreciate her lecturing or attitude towards me, a paying customer.

If she had talked to me on the phone or just answered my email questions instead of responding how busy she was, this would have gone much better. As it was, I probably should have gone elsewhere. The only thing keeping me from a one-star rating was that the party itself was fine. If that’s all I was rating, I would have rated it a 5. But….

Staff was so friendly — great service and experience.

We ordered the lobster tortellini and clam chowder. We also shared mussles as an appetizer. Food was good and came out hot. The tortellini needed lots of salt and pepper but the cheese and lobster were quality and they didn’t skimp at all on the amount of lobster served! Untoasted pita came with the mussles and I saved them for my chowder.

Would go again if we’re ever back in Bath!

Kennebec Tavern,Bath Maine, stopped by Kennebec because we wanted something different other than lobster, the loaded nachos was good but the lettuce should not be added to nachos since toppings are warm then the lettuce get wilted, there were no avacado and wish there were more seasoning added. Also had a cup of chili, nice concept with chunks of beef but again lacking in flavor, the cheeseburger with mushrooms was lacking in flavor, fish and chip was adequate, it would go a long way if the cook uses salt/pepper while cooking to enhance food flavors. The chicken breast sandwich was overcooked and again lacking in flavor, side of potato salad was disappointing, it was doused in mayo,a little goes a long way. Today customer go to restaurants that are consistent in flavor, perhaps this was a miss day for Kennebec. $$$
