Kenji’s Ramen – What the hell happened? : r/vancouverwa – Reddit

New ramen is good imo, more focus on the broth and more authentic ingredients. Noodles are still an issue and will likely be overhauled with the expansion and …

Our first time going here and it did not disappoint! The Ramen was delicious, my youngest daughter got the kids build your own Ramen and loved it, as well. Side note if your kids add shrimp to the Ramen; they’re breaded shrimp, eat them first, . My oldest got 2 plates of california rolls and she devoured all but 2. Server was nice and on point, even though the place was busy.

Had dinner here for the second time in two weeks today. Can you tell I’ve missed them during the remodel? All the food was excellent. It’s somehow the familiar favorites and also a completely new feel at the same time. The interior is stunning. Our server Deja was excellent- efficient, friendly, and detail oriented. Our drinks were always refilled, small hiccups were dealt with before we even noticed there was any sort of issue. I’m so happy to have Kenji’s back.

My wife and I came to Kenji’s for a date night and had an amazing experience. We enjoyed sake to start, shared some gyoza and sushi, and everything was absolutely delicious. We both ordered ramen—one classic and one spicy—and both were fantastic. The broth was rich, the noodles were perfect, and the marinated egg was hands-down my favorite part. Great food, great atmosphere, and a perfect spot for a date night. We’ll definitely be back!

So happy this place is open again… with upgrades! Looks amazing. Sushi was delicious, as were the drinks and the ramen. Joey was always checking in with us to make sure everything was going as expected. Excited to regularly visit again. Today is their third day being open… I’m laughing at the reviews where people are complaining of the wait to get waters while seated or whatever. Give them a break they are still figuring out how to get things into a flow!

Finally got the chance to try this spot out! The interior is really well-done and has a great atmosphere. I ordered the Naruto Bowl with added corn; while the pork was surprisingly tender (not chewy at all, which I appreciated), the broth was unfortunately way too salty for my taste, and I couldn’t finish it. On the plus side, our server was incredibly friendly and attentive. I’d be open to a second visit to try a different dish

Good atmosphere & good food. We’ve come here over the last 8 years. The remodel is very nice change. The sound system and music selection is ideal. If your a walk in, the wait can be a bit long, so consider making reservations.

I had su h a lovely surprise finding out Kenjis was in its grand opening week when I stumbled on it. The atmosphere was stunning with the gorgeous curved wooden ceiling design, swimming paper fish lamps white Sakura blossom tree as the center piece. I got to chat with Ken the owner and can tell he puts alot of care and thought into this business and his employees. I had the plum sake, which was smooth and very sweet, and the savory beef bulgogi. The portions were generous at reasonable prices, I enjoyed seeing the different, large sushi roll ordering coming out. The staff was so friendly and were happy to answer all of my questions. I will definitely will be coming back next time im in town!

Been coming here for years. Changed their recipe and have reverted back to the original greatness. The kaizen is still my favorite and I don’t think that will change. The music isn’t too loud and the ambience in here allows you to hear your date comfortably. They have always kept up on their cleanliness. Service is relatively quick and attentive. You’ll love it.

Couldn’t wait for them to reopen. Vancouver needs a decent ramen spot and so when they closed for the remodel a hole was left. Place is nicely decorated and friendly staff, my gripe lies with the reason I went there; the ramen. Broth was good the sides were fine. Chashu had great color. I don’t mind thick cuts but if they’re going to be that thick the meat needs to be melt in your mouth. Nothing more awkward than trying to take a small bite of the pork and it still hanging off your mouth because the fat isn’t fully rendered. My biggest issue was the undercooked noodles. Nothing worse than being excited for a firm chew ramen noodle and get a gummy doughy noodle. Maybe I was unlucky as I tried someone else’s noodles and it was fine. Paid a similarly priced ramen in NYC and it was exquisite, but that’s New York and not a fair comparison. Might be a while before I come back so all the quirks can be figured out. I want to like it.

First time back to Kenji‘s after the remodel. Walked in the place looked stunning. We were greeted by the hostess and was told that the wait time was 20 to 25 minutes. There were open tables in the bar area. So I inquired thinking that the bar area would be open seating, I was informed that it was a way list area as well. There was 2 to 3 open tables with no one sitting at it. We waited about 5 to 10 minutes. All of a sudden a hostess comes over and says they have a table ready for us. Only to be seated in the bar area where there was empty tables when we arrived. We sat down and reviewed menu had noticed that prices have gone up about five dollars per item, and that there was a price for every side that you added to your Ramen yet they charged $18 for one of their specialty bowls with stuff already in it. When we received our food, the portions looked smaller than I remember before the remodel and came out to about $20 a bowl of Ramen. Ramen is not that expensive to make. And the broth seemed a little watered down.

The service from the wait staff was mediocre kind of snooty and stand offish. Prior to the remodel, Kenji‘s was my place to go to have Ramen. The wait staff was friendly and you felt welcome and relaxed and it was a casual place to enjoy Ramen on a cold night. I miss the old staff! The waiter immediately approached the table after our food was delivered to ask how it tasted, I didn’t even have a chance to take a bite out of my food. He only came back to ask if we wanted more drinks once.

Don’t know that I could afford having many more meals at Kenji‘s with the prices that they are. Don’t know that I will be going back there anytime soon, which is a little disappointing. I like to support local, especially when the owners are from Hawaii trying to make a living.
