A 100 year Milwaukee family run restaurant a quick drive from downtown. Authentic German cuisine and a good number beers on tap in pint and quart sized glass steins. I sat at the original bar and enjoyed 2 delicious appetizers with my beer: kugel wurst (bratwurst and cheese encased in a deep fried potato pancake) and pork shanks rolls. Portions were generous and filled me up. That night some masked dancers and accordion players performed under the heated tent over the beer garden. Very funny and captivating. A definite must for anyone interested in german culture.

AMAAAAZING Establishment! Ask for Mare, she’s a fixture of the restaurant and the best emissary the owners could ever find or ask for. Makes you feel like a regular or local. Food was DELICIOUS. I recommend for true German appetizer a pretzel, some variation or wurst and cheese curds b/c WI. For a main, ai recommend the Duck, Pork Shank or Schnitzel. I tried the French onion soup and it did not disappoint. Wash all that food down with a stein of amazing beer, I am partial to the Dunkel or Oktoberfest. Pricing was fair, not a bargain, but on par for quality or food recieved. As always Tell’em OuttaTownTony sent you via Google Reviews!

The FFF didn’t disappoint! We enjoyed ordering items across the board! We would recommend scheduling a reservation for a Friday night!
Amazingly fast service!!!
The fish fry was small but 4 pieces, light breading, flakey & moist, flavorful & definitely preferred the potato pancakes over the French fries which we wish the plates had dividers so the liquids wouldn’t saturate other food items. It was a great meal overall!

I haven’t been here for a few years, but it’s such a wonderful thing to be able to visit an old world multi-generational restaurant, especially a german one. In wisconsin we don’t have too many of those left so I was eager to see their current menu. So many great choices. I started the evening with a bourbon Manhattan, which was absolutely delicious, however, they didn’t have Luxardo cherries which for me makes all the difference in the garnish for a Manhattan. The food the food was amazing! I ordered a bowl of the liver dumpling soup, yes I love liver. We’re going to then I ordered the Polish Warsaw but ask for no bun. He came with a side of red sweet and sour cabbage, fries, and wow cheese curds. I haven’t a couple of great conversations going on at the bar. It was a very enjoyable evening. As I was heading to my car I heard a little music so I went to to check it out and it was a band in the biergarden. What a treat! I’ll be back.

The fish fry is always delicious. No matter if you choose cod, grouper or vegan it is always served hot and fresh. The old fashioneds are also fabulous. They host a ton of fun events, most recently lent in the tent with live music in an indoor beer garden setting. Truly can’t recommend Kegel’s Inn enough!

It’s pretty hard not to like this place. Lent in a Tent on a Friday is a festive atmosphere with great live music. Eating inside is great too. The pork shanks were excellent. 6 sausage platter good. Fish fry was among the best. And the potato pancakes were the best I’ve ever had. Served with not only apple sauce, but cinnamon apple sauce. It was really good. Really.

First time I’ve been back to Kegels in 40 years. We were a Party of 4 during dinner rush on fish fry Friday during lent. Place was jam packed. Parking is very limited. We side street parked 2 blocks away.
Had reservation for dining room for 5:30. 2 of us arrived 5 minutes early and we were seated immediately. Our server stopped by quickly to intro, deliver menus and get drink order. Came back when rest of party arrived and was attentive all evening. We all ordered fish fry ( blue gill x 3 and a cod) which arrived relatively quickly and were served hot. FYI- they only serve a very limited menu on Friday’s meaning mostly traditional German dishes are NOT available on Friday.
My only minor complaints are apple strudel was a disappointment—- seemed store bought and overly sweet. Also- coffees took too long to arrive which was well after the strudel.
Glad we ate in the dining room- tent is very bright and the brass band was very loud.
I’ll be back again soon to enjoy the German menu and future fish fry’s.

A genuine neighborhood restaurant. If you like German food, you will like it here. There were seven of us so we had a wide selection from the menu. Two of us had the beer flight which consisted of seven German beers. Check the photos for the atmosphere. Transported us back to Germany. Our server was excellent and answered any questions. Check it out if you are in the area and a fan of German food.

The food was decent but they stuck us in a tent out back that had a small and inefficient heater. We’d had a reservation for several days. They did begrudgingly move us and acted like we were crazy.

Went here for a birthday dinner. Did. Not. Disappoint. The service was awesome. Laid back and professional. The food surpassed my expectations. The goulash was absolutely fantastic. The beer flight was perfect. The red cabbage was exactly what I wanted. My partner had the schnitzel and loved it. A little something for everyone. The music was A+. Joni Mitchell, steely Dan, Paul Simon, etc. made a huge difference. Strongly recommend this place! We had gone to Maders a few months back and did not like it. This is the place to go for German food.
