First, we noticed the tables and floors were filthy. I had to wipe our table up myself with a handi-wipe as food from the previous customers littered the table top and many of the other tables were just as dirty. We noticed our feet were even sticking to the floor. This had never been the case before.
When I received my food it was the direct opposite of what I had ordered which was a grilled chicken salad with everything, no onions. I received lettuce, chicken, and nothing else, but the onions I explicitly said I didn’t want. No other vegetables at all.
My husband ordered a taco salad and received one tiny cup of sour cream for his mostly large bed of lettuce-taco salad. I watched him eat the dry lettuce unhappily and urged him to please go ask for a bit more sour cream. One should not simply accept what you are miserable with when you work hard to pay that bill. Yet, he simply accepted the slight and chewed on.
Also, we both noticed immediately that our salads was unmistakably made with pre-bagged lettuce, verses fresh. To note, a year prior I had ordered that same chicken salad and remarked how fresh and delicious it was. I absolutely loved their honey mustard dressing. Now, perhaps they’ve always used pre-bagged lettuce, however, this time it was impossible not to notice the taste.
When I approached them about my order, they apologized saying they were training new workers. That’s fully understandable. Mistakes do happen. They took my plate and rectified it with the addition of some vegetables and the onions were removed. We both ate our food, albeit not impressed with the prebagged lettuce taste and my husband’s dry taco salad.
We left to go shop and I immediately began to feel really sick. My stomach remained terribly nauseated throughout that evening, all that night, and into the next morning. We both agreed we won’t be returning unless changes are made. Again, we can absolutely understand a wrong order due to training workers (it’s always young kids working). However, not cleaning tables in a timely manner and being presented with filthy tables, floors, and restroom is just not okay. Nor is getting sick directly after eating there!
So disappointing, when our general area is lacking in great food options as it is. After several months of not visiting a place you can really notice if food, cleanliness, and service has gotten slack. Unfortunately, that was our experience in this case. They tend to be a little pricey compared to other options in this same casual food class. We were always willing to pay a little more for the quality and atmosphere. Even the upbeat be-bop music and 50’s genre loses its lustre when things aren’t clean or quality anymore.
They display awards they’ve received for great food and service. I know these were well-deserved and I am aware these are good Christian folks, so I do hope they realize noticeable changes have taken place and will rectify them. We would love to return to the place we adored. Desserts are still excellent. Therefore I’m rating 3-stars overall despite the 2-star experience that landed me sick. In Christian love, get back to your humble beginnings and original standards.
The monster milkshakes were a bit too much for me but my husband really enjoyed the Birthday Cake one we bought for him on his birthday.
Definitely worth a visit (or two or three…) when in town. Glad to have a sweet place for treats especially with Dari Barn no longer in town.
