First time at Kay’s Dairy Bar and it was amazing! Enjoyed fried calamari, fried pickles, fried haddock and a cheeseburger plate for three of us. Portions were good, had no room for ice cream (next time!). Overall delicious and fresh food! The haddock was really, really good. Service was friendly and efficient. Ample outdoor seating, though road noise is distracting. We noticed many picnic tables behind the dairy bar (as we were leaving) that look nice for a quieter atmosphere. Will definitely be back! Happy to see they are open year round.

Feeling strain of the current economy and policies from our administration, I felt that it was time to try a fried seafood joint with prices that were a bit more affordable – especially compared to Kimball Farm.

Located in Westminster, MA this places feels pretty out of the way compared to many other destination restaurants. Alternatively, I guess it’s pretty cool that a damn good seafood shack is available if you live way out here.

This place is totally loaded with parking spots. Although when I arrived, it was pretty busy and I still had to do a single circle around to find a spot.

Outside, there is the typical long line waiting to order ice cream. I did not get any this trip, so I don’t have any comment. You must go inside if you want to order the fried foods.

Inside is pretty minimal. There are small tables along the side of the walls if you and one other person want to eat inside. The central area is clear, and of course you order at the counter. The cashier was nice made sure to double-check if everything was ordered right. The wait times though, were not so great. It took 35min from the time of ordering to finally receive my food. I guess there were about 5 orders before me, but that’s still quite the long wait.

I ordered:

Double-Stuffed Lobster Roll $31.99. Oh man, at first look, this bad boy is loaded! It’s a Maine-style lobster roll, so it’s served cold and mayonnaisey on a lightly toasted New England-style hotdog bun. I’m not quite sure if I agree with filling the bottom of the bun with shredded lettuce. I think it dilutes the flavor of the lobster (lettuce is mostly water!), and it also feels like a shady tactic to make it look fuller than it is – like a food commercial.

Scallop and Whole Belly Clam Combo $27.99. At first glance, the serving size is a little disappointing when directly compared to Kimball Farm’s “Pick Two Seafood Combo” but I have to remind myself that their equivalent combo would’ve been $41.45 / $49.95 (depending on the size). With that in mind, this is a fair portion, and actually it’s a lot better if you don’t want to feel totally stuffed and lethargic. The fries, coleslaw, and tartar sauce are all exactly what you’ve had before. No comments. The whole belly clams were yummy, but there weren’t many huge pieces I’m accustomed to. The scallops were perfection! The batter was perfectly lightly seasoned, and the scallops were still moist with every bite, even after waiting to eat it at home.

Big fan of this place, and I’ll totally come back here to try out the ice cream. This might be my new favorite scallop place if the quality remains consistent.

I had ordered take out for my mom and I. She got a BLT sandwich with well done bacon. When I brought the food home I saw the bacon was raw. My mom didn’t want it anymore, would rather have her money back. I called Kay’s and they said it was cooked but because of the car ride home it got soggy. I asked if I could bring the sandwich back for a refund and they said yes. When I arrived they knew who I was from the phone call, and they took the sandwich. I talked to three different people explaining I wanted a refund. The chef brought a new sandwich out and I told him I didn’t want a new one made but a refund. I got dirty looks from all the girls behind the counter, even though I was being calm and nice about it all. The chef held out the to go box in front of me and said he already made a new one. So I just took it. How awful they literally targeted me and gaslit me into saying the bacon was cooked.

I ordered the quart of lobster bisque. How disappointing !! I got a quart of red slop that tastes like lobster with no lobster in it at all for $16.25!!! Never again. Your customers should be told it comes in a plastic bag and then thrown in a container…

Ordered a BLT with well-done bacon. Got home the bacon was raw. Called to get a refund, Kays said to come in. Drove back the 30 minutes with the food, then there was too much discussion about getting a refund, the chef had remade the sandwich, even though we said, refund. 3 employees were very rude in their responses. The ticket stated WD for the bacon. There is no discussion on this, Kay’s is not what it used to be.

With lobsters, clams, scallops and haddock on the menu, this isn’t the average dairy bar and the food was good! They only have a small inside seating area, so don’t count on being able to get a seat inside, but outside there is more seating, so if it’s warm enough…
Do save room for an ice cream, the servings are generous and the ice cream is good.

It was average, really. The fries were crispy and well cooked but bland. Popcorn shrimp was okay. My brothers chicken tenders were a little too tender, but not mushy. Probably good for people who have bad teeth and need softer stuff. Cocktail sauce was oddly spicy?

Ice cream was awesome though. I got the smores boat and it was fantastic.

Most of it is fried seafood. They do have seasonal alligator, regular and spicy. Havent tried it but one other brave soul may try it and leave their own review.

Portion sizes are good. kid friendly. Wheelchair accessible. Good amount of free parking.

Amazing little place! Tons of outdoor dining and room to be socially distant. Yummy fried food to satisfy your cheat days. Incredibly delicious and creamy icecream with daily sundae specials for 1.99!! ( Didnt get pics of the ice creams because we just dove in and devoured them! Next time! ) We will definitely be back often!

Kay’s restaurant always seems to knock it out of the park each time! The members of our party got a Captain’s platter, a clam plate, and a cup of ice cream.

The Captain’s platter was loaded with beautifully battered and perfectly fried to a golden brown pieces of various seafood. Lobster, whole belly clams, scallops and shrimp loaded the container. A healthy container of fries accompanied the seafood as well as a nice creamy, well seasoned coleslaw topped the plate. All perfectly fried and well seasoned without being overly salty, which is often the case at other establishments.

The clam plate was equally beautiful in batter and fry. Instead of fries, the seafood was accompanied by a delicious cucumber salad which was sweet enough, yet still loaded with that pickle-ish flavor expected. Also, accompanied by some of that delicious coleslaw.

The Cotton candy ice cream (hard) was wonderfully creamy and blasted with it’s namesake flavor. A must try. They also have MULTIPLE flavors of soft serve and many hard Ice cream flavors they change up.

Very much worth the ride out of you’re not located nearby!

If you love fried seafood, this is the place. The batter is light and crispy. The portion sizes are more than enough. There is a varied menu including burgers, and many other item. They offer ice cream for dessert. The tables outside have both cover and open air.
