stopped by during the winter carnival since my favourites were closed, and my only regret is that kawakubo wasn’t my first choice. this restaurant is gorgeous. the decor and art catches your eye from the moment you walk in, and everywhere you look there’s another beautiful piece to look at. the staff are personable and extremely helpful as well — even at 5 minutes to close I didn’t get the sense I was being rushed out at all, even though they had every right to! the food is just incredible. i got the mini hot pot, which was the perfect combination of filling and delicious. i have no idea what i ate but i want to have it every day. i was told it would be spicier if i mix the side kimchi into the broth, and i fully intend to next time i eat here. the tofu was silky, soft, and probably the most melt-in-your-mouth i’ll ever have. the shrimp were perfect. i love shrimp. i want to eat kawakubo’s shrimp every day. i wish i had more time and money to eat everything on the menu. thank you for changing my life i will be coming back

I’m very disappointed with Kawakubo. The first few times we went and ordered from the restaurant, it stood out from the other sushi places in Vernon; it was simply a different kind of sushi in terms of flavor and freshness of ingredients! During these last two months of February and March, our last visit to the restaurant and our pickup order were terrible! We arrived at the restaurant 40 minutes before closing time, but every 5 minutes a server came rushing us to leave and inviting us to pack up our order to take home! It was super uncomfortable; I couldn’t even have a conversation with my husband during dinner. And now, in this last pickup, the sushi simply came squeezed into a mini box; obviously, it lost its original structure and ended up looking like a crumpled piece of sushi! Frustrating considering the high price we pay when ordering sushi! Anyway, I hope things improve!

This is such a great sushi place! Rice/fish is melt in your mouth good, miso soup is flavourful, edamame is warm and almost nutty, tempura was crisp and the dipping sauce was perfectly savoury sweet, red dragon roll was a highlight! Hospitality was excellent – we arrived about an hour before closing and never felt rushed. Instead they were refilling our waters still until minutes before closing time. One of the great restaurants in Vernon.

Best sushi I’ve ever had! The service is also amazing! And the atmosphere is so cozy. Comfy booths and dimmed lighting. We had lunch here and this will be a must stop next time we are in Vernon!

Food is well presented in a nice atmosphere. Service was inconsiderate. The server would not stop engaging us to converse with her when clearly we were in a business meeting. Needless to say our tip to her reflected on this. No rush to return soon.

We’ve been to many different sushi places and this one had great reviews so I thought I’d try. The portions were very small, 6 little pieces, without much for fish for $15-16 each. The presentation was nice but flavour was a bit bland, overall I was a bit disappointed.
