What a great find! They make a lot (but not all) of their stuff in-house so it’s very fresh.
I personally think that fresh pasta is one of those things that is like the scene with the red or blue pill choice from the Matrix. One shows him the truth and the other returns him to blissful ignorance. Yep, fresh pasta is a similar experience.
We ordered potstickers, beef chow fun and wonton soup. There’s not one of those dishes that was less than spectacular although the beef chow fun stood out for two reasons:
1. incredibly salty
2. insanely tender beef
You should be good to order the beef chow fun as long as a bit of extra sodium won’t send you to the hospital. If it will, get something else. If it won’t, you’re in for a treat. The noodles in this dish are not made in-house but they are prepared expertly. The dish could have used a few less onions but I probably should have thought to ask for just a little onion. The real standout is the beef. I’m not sure what they did as far as a marinade but the pieces of meat were fork-tender and incredibly flavorful.
I would call the potstickers a “must order” if you visit. They offer several different permutations but we went pretty traditional and ordered the pork. They arrived with the entrees but it worked out since everything was served piping hot and we let various dishes cool a little before eating. The potstickers didn’t hold heat like the chow fun so they were consumed first. Tender yet firm dough, very flavorful seasoning and a pretty typical dipping sauce to round out the plate.
I tried the wife’s wonton soup as well. The wontons were expertly made and none of them came apart in the broth. They were on par with the potstickers too. The noodles were freshly made and (even though they are a bit dense) presented as tender and perfectly cooked. The broth itself was rich and full of flavor. Very good dish!

Katy’s Dumplings Oak Park was valid. The Beef Chow Fun was on point, with perfectly cooked wide noodles, just the right amount of sauce, silky beef and crispy edges yummy. The dumplings were good Pork and cabbage and shrimp with greens. Mao Po tofu was perfectly seasoned and tofu was excellent. We also tried the Dumpling noodle soup which was ok. The scallion pancake was bland and chewy so I don’t recommend it. I highly recommend all the other dishes though and prices were fair and portions were large. I will definitely be back. Service was super too.

Bummed to have to say this but the food was pretty bad. I don’t know how they can burn and then go ahead and serve onion pancake this way, unless they don’t care. The pork and cabbage dumplings were unlike any we’ve had, but not seem necessarily bad. But the shrimp in the spring rolls was undercooked and mushy still.
The location is fantastic and the decor good. We only did takeout so not sure how the waitstaff is.
Unfortunately we’ll have to go a bit further for authentic Chinese food, as this seemed to offer it, and then disappoint.

Our go to place in oak park for authentic northern style Chinese food. The neighborhood around the restaurant is super cute- so make sure you plan a nice day to explore the area! Our favorites were the hot and sour soup and xiaolongbao. The scallion pancakes were freshly made with a solid crunch.
Stills one of my favorite places, but they need to make sure to invest in employees who actually care about customers. Our experiences have been sub par, and I never write negative reviews. I suggest new employees.
I will update the review if service improves on our next visit.

Horrible service – one of the servers looked like she hated being there and our existence was a great bother to her. Food was not good, borderline inedible. The beef in beef noodle soup was undercooked. The broth tastes different, very one dimensional and simple/non complex vs Westmont. Likely since it wasn’t stewed for the required amount of time for it to attain complexity. The dumpling wrapper was so thick and the filling was so under seasoned it tasted like play dough. At least the portion was decent, but why would anyone want a large quantity of terrible food? Again, the server was in such a bad mood (and didn’t check up on us once) that I decided it was best not raise the concern. The og location in Westmont is far superior. If quality control was going to be such a problem, I don’t think opening up a second location was the best decision. The fortune cookie was interesting, though.

The dumplings are not good at all. I’ve had frozen grocery store dumplings that were far superior in taste. The cucumber salad was also tasteless. The chow fun noodles tasted like pure oil, beef was flavorless. The server was kind and attentive though.

– From jump, the staff did not acknowledge our presence when we first stood/waited by the front desk (and there were about 5 staff members right there).
– For a place named Katy’s Dumplings… we were disappointed as the dumplings were underseasoned, the dipping sauce was salty and tasted of pure soy sauce.
– The Thai Iced Tea was alright (not quite sweet enough for me).
Pros:
– Food came to the table quickly!
– The entrees (General Tsos & Sesame Beef) were okay.
– The white rice was cooked perfectly!

If you’re in oak park I would definitely check out this place. We ordered the orange chicken (which came with white rice), fried chicken rice, and fried beef dumplings. I wasn’t fan of the fried dumplings because their regular dumplings are so much better. However, the flavor of the beef was delicious. Did I mention this place is byob? And they don’t charge a cork fee.
