Beautiful restaurant. The atmosphere was cozy yet modern, and the staff was friendly, especially our waiter Steven. He was attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Service was quick but never rushed, which made the whole meal feel relaxed and enjoyable. Fish was very fresh. Overall great experience.

Katsuya Co looks lovely and the service is very friendly and attentive, but ultimately the food and the price really make me hesitant to go back.

My husband fell for the trap of saying yes when the waiter asked if we wanted “still water” without realizing that they’d charge us $10 for it, so that was kind of an offputting start – no one likes to feel upsold on something as unimportant as water.

The vegetable dishes were quite good, but small portions for the cost, with the exception of the edamame. Meat was very well cooked but neither the kushiyaki or yakitori had much flavor at all. The dishes were okay – not bad, but if I’m paying 3 times as much as I would at any of San Diego’s lovely local Japanese restaurants, I also expect the food to be better, and it really just wasn’t. I will say the burning orange blossom cocktail is very good – the one thing I’d definitely recommend without reservation.

The receipt is also odd – they take a 5% service charge as well as listing two seperate lines, one for tip and one for gratuity. I’m not sure how they were differentiating these 3 things.

Overall it’s not bad, but didn’t live up to the cost. There are better spots nearby so we probably won’t return.

A new Japanese restaurant just opened in UTC, and I decided to walk in and try it today. We ordered three dishes:

1️⃣ Crispy Rice – Crispy rice topped with tuna, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, very chewy and unique.
2️⃣ Katsuya Roll – A very creative roll with cucumber wrapped around fresh fish, tastes great with the dipping sauce.
3️⃣ Salmon Citrus – Definitely my favorite of the day! Thick slices of salmon with what seems like a hint of citrus, giving it a rich, layered flavor. Highly recommend!

The restaurant adds a 5% service fee at checkout. These three dishes came to over $80, so the price is a bit on the higher side, but the environment is comfortable and the service is excellent. Overall, a very good experience—definitely worth a try!

Fantastic place to eat! The food was exceptional and the service from our server Rudy was top notch .. recommending this place to all my friends.

The best of what we ate was the jalapeño crudo and braised beef rice that they serve table side.

Food and service were good overall, but the pacing was off, each person’s dish arrived at a different time. Brussels sprouts, crispy rice rolls, and mentaiko pasta were great. Fried rice was bland. Would return but hoping they improve the timing.

Very excited to try this new restaurant. We arrived at 12:15 pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was nearly empty. When we asked for a table for two, we were told they only seat guests with reservations. We left disappointed. Half an hour later, the restaurant still appeared quite empty. Not sure how they manage seating, but the experience was confusing and disappointing.
