This was my first visit, discovered while searching for Japanese Katsu/cutlet options, despite it not being close to my location. We arrived during lunchtime, and the restaurant was nearly full. Although the space isn’t large, it offers ample seating, including bar-style seating, and features an open kitchen concept.
The menu is straightforward yet comprehensive, with a variety of katsu options, including shrimp and veggie, which are typically served as tempura or kakiage at Japanese restaurants. We ordered the Hire Katsu curry-pork tenderloin, veggie and shrimp katsu, and a side order of tonkatsu. You can choose curry , traditional katsu or Katsu Don.
The food was prepared quickly. The highlight was the Hire Katsu curry-pork tenderloin, with incredibly tender meat. The curry is yummy and not too overpowering. The veggie and shrimp katsu were also delicious, though I personally prefer them in tempura style. The tonkatsu (pork loin) was good but a bit dry.
Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch, and we left with some leftovers, as the portions were quite generous.
We ordered hari katsu plate and katsu curry. Also the shrimp and oyster katsu. Their curry is flavorful with a kick and the katsus are fried perfectly! Everything was perfect and so so delicious!
We ended up ordering extra portions for my kids because they loved it so much!
Service was also amazing! it’s a tiny restaurant so make sure you come early to avoid the wait! can’t wait to come back!
The oil is fresh and they let the katsu rest to let the oil drain. This results in making sure the katsu did not feel greasy and heavy.
The dish is well balanced with the curry being flavorful, conplimenting the hire katsu. The pickled veggies on the side were nice with the acidity to help balance out the katsu.
A recommendation I have would be to add a little sugar to the pickles as they can lean towards the salty side.
I will probably go back. Quick to order, can sit at the bar and watch, and moderately priced (at least for these days).
On top of that, I waited about 45 minutes for food that just didn’t live up to the hype. Overall, not worth the wait.
I will say it was great though, chicken katsu was good with their curry being average but fine.
Their takoyaki and fish katsu were both fantastic as well.
Pricing wise they are a tad more then the other spot I went too but the quantity is about right for the pricing. Would recommend for any katsu curry enjoyers.
I am a lover of deep fried.. And this is katsu as it should be! Light batter, not oily, no overpowering seasoning so you can actually taste the protein!
Pork tenderloin: Few reviews commenting about being too thick. I thought it was perfect, still juicy, and shows they don’t need to “cut costs” by offering a thinner cut.
Pork loin, prawns, fish, oyster, veggie.. All perfectly done.
No issues with the rice. Good sake, cold beer…
Perfect night!
