If I you’re looking for a meal that feels like a warm hug, you’ve found the right place. Kat’s Community Cafe in downtown Greenville is so much more than just a restaurant; it’s a testament to family and love. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the heart they put into everything they do.

✨ A Place Steeped in Family History

The story behind the cafe is as moving as the food is delicious. The restaurant was opened by Towana Dunning and her father, and it’s named in loving memory of Towana’s mother, Kat, who passed away in 2015 . Photos of her are posted by the register, making her presence felt throughout the space . The owners have made it clear that they want every customer to know that “the love of God is here” and that the establishment is built on a foundation of “love and family” . This heartfelt history isn’t just a backstory; it’s the essence of the cafe’s cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

While a specific menu isn’t available, you can expect to find hearty staples like fried chicken, hamburger and gravy, pork chops, and collard greens . This was our first time coming to Kat’s… I was referred here by another reviewer. My mom and I were looking for something to eat. I said, well let’s try this new place that I heard about. It took us about 5 mins tops to find the location downtown Greenville. Excellent spot right on the corner, across from the court house.
Anyhow, when we walked inside the atmosphere was very quaint and cozy. Lots of seating but not too extreme. We walked up and gave the young lady our order she was very pleasant as well as, knowledgeable of the menu. We sat down at the window seating area. I didn’t have an expectation. I was simply trying the place out.

My Goodness!!! Every bite, of everything my mother and I ordered had a different flavor, a succulent texture. I was impressed and overwhelmed all at the same time. The price was reasonable, not too overbearing and not so inexpensive that makes you wonder why so cheap.
The chef knows exactly what to do in the kitchen honey!!! Down to the lemonade I had. Usually, I never ever get lemonade because it’s either too sour or too sweet.
My Lord take the wheel, this drink was just right. My mom says, the tea went down smooth with every swallow. Last but certainly not the least, I ordered a small banana pudding. Why did I do such a thing! That buttery smooth, cookie filled, banana tasted slice of heaven. Chile, I cannot express my pleasure any further.

I can assure you, I am not over selling, I can promise you. This place does not need my review. Hands down by far the best soul food that I have eaten since I was a child. I kid you not. If you try this food on your own, you will not be disappointed!!!

Kat’s I will be back! I have found a new food home.
My only con is, the food snatched my soul. I have literally lost all my energy to do anything today. I am so comforted my day has officially ended. Off to a good movie, and snuggling with my hubby!

Enjoy everyone! Happy eating!

Everyone here is so kind and genuinely good spirited! That only adds to how phenomenal all of the food at this restaurant is! I have been here twice now and have not had something that I did not like! They pour their love and heart into everything that they make, and you can tell! Keep doing what you’re doing and praise God that you are here.

Amazing restaurant. The people are so warm and welcoming. Today they had a free feeding for New Years. I walked in and knew I was getting good soul food. They showed me how much soul they had when I pulled out my card to pay and it was free. I would have never thought that walking in! No one has done something like for me in a long time and felt like crying. I donated immediately once I realized I was even able to donate and believe this restaurant to be an amazing thing for the community of Greenville. Ya’ll have a blessed and happy New Year! God bless all the servers and the owner today.

My wife and I stumbled upon Kat’s Lil Community Cafe a couple weeks ago during a trip to support a family member through a medical procedure. Little did we know, we’d find more than just a place to eat. We found a haven of warmth, delicious food, and genuine human connection that truly lifted our spirits during a challenging time. To be honest, discovering such an amazing establishment was bittersweet, as we were only in town for a few days. However, it left a lasting impression on us.

We had the pleasure of trying both the breakfast and lunch menus, and I can say everything we tried was absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a welcoming atmosphere and homey environment. But, it was the genuine kindness of the owners that truly stood out. They greeted every single customer like family. You could tell this wasn’t just a business for them; it was a passion, a community gathering place, and a labor of love. Customer service is paramount to my wife and I, and Kat’s Lil Community Cafe not only met our expectations, they completely exceeded them.

During our visit, I had the privilege of speaking with the daughter/owner (I sincerely apologize for not remembering her name!), and she shared the touching story behind the restaurant. Learning about Kat and the motivation behind the business was deeply heart touching. It’s clear that Kat’s spirit lives on in every aspect of this cafe, and I can only imagine how proud she must be, looking down on her daughter and husband as they so beautifully carry on her legacy. They’re not just serving food; they’re serving community, connection, and a whole lot of heart. This is what community truly looks like.

While we don’t currently live nearby, our families are still based about an hour and a half away, and Kat’s Lil Community Cafe is now firmly on our must-visit list whenever we’re back home. We already cannot wait for our next visit.

Thank you to the entire team at Kat’s Lil Community Cafe for taking such good care of us during our travels. We’re sending prayers for abundance, success, and continued blessings over your family and your incredible establishment in all future endeavors. You deserve all the good things coming your way!

P.S. You absolutely CANNOT leave Kat’s Lil Community Cafe without trying the blueberry biscuits. They are simply heavenly and made from love! And while I’m singing praises, I have to give an honorable mention to the grits and the fried chicken. Honestly, you really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

Some places just do things the good old-fashioned way. Meaning they stick to great traditions of the past. This place is one. Kind service and exceptional country cooking are the backbone to this establishment. At my first taste of the cabbage, I was reminded of what my childhood taste like. It was perfectly seasoned and not overdone with a mass of other things. It was actually cabbage that I tasted, how about that?? Meatloaf spot on and sweet potato casserole the same. Not overly sweetened but just right. Then there was the chicken salad, fresh and the chicken was cooked on the bone which makes all the difference in the world. (Take note all of you places using canned chicken or boneless breast meat) I was actually excited when finding a small bone in it. This is how food should be done. Quality plates , fresh ingredients and served with a smile. So many places now give you tons of food but it has no soul, and they all use the same lemon pepper and cajun seasonings, this restaurant does the opposite, but still has solid portions. I’ll be back and I’ll be spreading the word. Thanks for a great lunch experience.

I was the only white person there so you know it’s good.

Really though, good food. Juicy fried chicken and good Mac. Not the most crispy but I got there a bit late in the day so it probably wasn’t super fresh. Flavor was spot on though. Would go back and try everything else.
