The Pad See Ew noodles was the only dish that did not impress. The noodles had no charring and were a bit dry. They also were far less oily compared to most other places, which maybe is more healthy, but compromised the taste.
The food itself was like mediocre Thai food. However, most mediocre Thai places would give you larger portions with a larger variety of vegetables for about half the cost. The pad puk for example had four pieces of tofu, three or four pieces of broccoli, two pieces of cauliflower, some carrot slices and a pile of cabbage. That’s it. It was $20 with no rice.
The only standout is the Thai coffee because they use quality coconut milk. It is actually very reasonably priced. But they do try to skimp on the coconut milk, so make sure you ask for more.
Minimal space. QR menus. minimal interaction with the staff.
Best for vegan people or those who have never had Thai food.
In terms of flavor, it was remarkably deep and not overly simple, which is especially impressive since the restaurant is vegan and cannot use fish sauce. The dish avoided the common pitfall of only tasting like soy sauce. The garlic was aromatic, and the string beans had the perfect, slightly crunchy texture, which nicely juxtaposed with the softer vegan meat and onions. The generous portion of bamboo shoots was also crucial.
After being so impressed by the Kra-pao, I decided to order the Pad Kee Mao to taste and take home. Again, I was impressed. As you can see in my picture, there was a slight char on the onions, tofu, and noodles. The texture of the noodles was perfect—not too soggy and not overcooked.
My only critique is that the Pad Kee Mao could have been seasoned with a little more sauce. While the flavor was well-absorbed by the vegetables, the noodles had some segments that were whiter and not coated with enough sauce.
When I first got this dish, I was a bit concerned as I didn’t see any of the noodles. I did find there were a lot of them under the surface of the broth, though
For the most part, I really liked the combination of flavors that this dish had. The noodles were very well infused with both a coconut-like and creamy flavor that created a great tasting final product, that’s pretty unique. There was also some spice to it – which was nice to have.
I didn’t think the broth was *super* rich though – it was a little more on the liquidy side, but the flavor was good regardless
The noodles themselves were cooked very well – these were about medium thickness, and retained some bite to them. It was also very easy to eat with a fork. As a matter of fact, this entire dish could easily be eaten just using a fork due to the amount of noodles, which was very nice
The tofu in this bowl was also excellent. Obviously it was no longer crispy, being soaked in the broth, but the inside was wonderfully moist and juicy. It was only lightly fried, so the batter wasn’t excessive
We also got an appetizer of the fried cauliflower florets – which was fantastic. The batter was great and seasoned amazingly, with just the right amount of spice – and the sauce given was sweet, which acted well to balance out the spicy flavor
I did try some of a couple other dishes. the hot basil fried rice was good, but the pad see ew was pretty bad in my opinion. the noodles were super chewy and seemed to be way undercooked – also that dish arrived basically cold
For the price of around $25 total, the portion size for most dishes are pretty large, so it’s a decent enough deal.
I will mention that charging $5 extra for rice for any kind of curry is just ridiculous
Overall, I think this is a pretty good spot, but ordering any dish other than what I got feels like a risky choice. 8/10
The red curry with plant-based meat was a culinary masterpiece. The rich, aromatic curry sauce was perfectly balanced, and the plant-based meat was incredibly satisfying. Paired with the fragrant purple rice, it was a truly memorable meal.
