Amazing food and very pleasant surprise in Sioux Falls. Kathmandu Indian Cuisine is a true sleeper restaurant and kind of a hole in the wall, but in a very good way. The atmosphere is nice and cozy with Kathmandu flags and beautiful paintings, it feels warm and welcoming. The whole crew is Nepali, the cook is Nepali, and you can really taste the authenticity in the food.

The curries are full of flavor and the curry’s are awesome, rich, comforting, and cooked perfectly. The naan options are amazing and very unique, some of the best naan I have had. As someone who travels a lot and always looks for halal food, it was honestly surprising and very happy to find a place like this in Sioux Falls. Everything is halal, halal, halal, which is huge for people searching for halal food in this area.

If you are looking for Halal Indian flavor, Nepali flavor, or even Pakistani flavor, you get all of it in one place here. Great service, friendly people, amazing taste, and halal food done right. Highly recommend supporting this place.

I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! While I’m not very experienced with Indian cuisine and can’t speak to its authenticity, I can confidently say the food was excellent. I ordered the chicken korma and appreciated that they asked about my preferred spice level. I chose medium, and it was just right—adding a pleasant warmth without overpowering the flavors. The chicken was tender, the portion generous, and the sauce was rich, creamy, and full of well-balanced spices.

I also tried the garlic cheese naan, which was warm, tender, and had just the right amount of chew. It paired perfectly with the korma. As someone still exploring Indian cuisine, this meal was a great introduction, and I’m excited to come back and try more dishes!

First off. This is not a fancy place. But I’ve been here several times and it is always nice and clean. The service has always been top notch. My last visits was to pick up a to go order. I was hosting a gathering with friends and the vote came up that we wanted some chicken curry. So I called ahead a couple hours just to give them some time, and made a really big chicken curry order. They had it ready to go. On time. Super hot! And it was delicious. I love this place. I’m really glad that we have restaurants like this in Sioux Falls that help the residents explore some really great ethnic foods. Sioux Falls has a number of really good Indian style restaurants. And this is one of my favorites.

I recently had a fantastic dining experience at this Indian restaurant. The Mango Chicken is an absolute must-try—it’s flavorful and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. They also offer a variety of naan flavors, and I fell in love with their Kathmandu Naan, which comes with raisins, coconut flakes, and cherry sauce. It’s a unique blend of flavors that pairs wonderfully with the main dishes. The service here is top-notch; the staff is not only fast but also incredibly polite and friendly. The place is clean, smells great, and has plenty of seating, making it perfect for both small groups and larger gatherings. Highly recommend!

A Hidden Gem in South Dakota: A Delightful Fusion of Indian and Nepalese Cuisine

During a recent visit to South Dakota, I stumbled upon an Indian restaurant owned by Nepalese proprietors, and it turned out to be an unforgettable culinary experience. From the moment I walked in, the warm ambiance and friendly service set the tone for what would be an exceptional meal.

We started with the samosas, which were perfectly crisp on the outside and bursting with a flavorful potato and spice filling. Paired with tangy tamarind and mint chutneys, it was a delightful appetizer that hinted at the quality of the dishes to come.

Next, we tried the momos, a Nepalese specialty. These steamed dumplings were delicate yet hearty, filled with a savory mix of vegetables and spices, and served with a spicy tomato-based dipping sauce. The balance of flavors and textures was spot on, making it one of the highlights of the meal.

For the main course, we ordered paneer tikka masala accompanied by naan. The paneer was incredibly soft and perfectly grilled, immersed in a rich, creamy tomato-based gravy that was spiced to perfection. The naan was warm, fluffy, and slightly charred, making it the ideal vessel to scoop up every bit of the luscious sauce.

Every dish was crafted with care and authenticity, showcasing a beautiful fusion of Indian and Nepalese culinary traditions. The spices were bold yet harmonious, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident in every bite.

This restaurant is a true hidden gem in South Dakota, offering an incredible blend of flavors and an authentic dining experience. Whether you’re a fan of Indian cuisine or looking to explore Nepalese flavors, this place is a must-visit.

I can not truly rate the atmosphere and service as I did not dine in. However I can review the food. So I got the Naan Basket, lamb korma, lamb tikka masala, saag paneer, and Lamb Biryani. All the curries and saag came with rice which was nice. Everything was was hot and had a nice flavor with the exception of the saag paneer. Although it was hot, it lacked flavor, no seasoning which is odd because I have had great saag paneer, and it had good flavor. Instead of bland cooked spinach.

When in doubt about what to eat, Kathmandu always hits the spot. Whether it’s lunch buffet, take out or dining in for a nice dinner, this place always delivers. The restaurant is clean, the wait staff is always friendly and I’ve never had a bad experience. If you’re in the mood for Indian food, do yourself a favor and try this place.

We ordered online: chicken korma, lamb vindaloo, and garlic Naan. Both the meat dishes and rice were good. The lamb vindaloo wasn’t spicy, but we must have forgotten to comment to make is spicey. The garlic Naan was a bit diassapointing, as this is usually our favorite part. Could have been because it was wrapped up… not sure. It was flat and almost seemed undercooked. Would still come back and order the meat dishes.
