First of all, I have lived and dined in Peterborough since September 2010 and believe it has some of the best independent restaurants in the UK. Whether it’s a Sunday roast at the Shed, pizza at the Pizza House or a curry at Tap and Tandoor, we are very spoilt for choice with establishments who deliver top notch food with great customer service…
…which unfortunately was not my experience at Katana. Given the hype that continues to surround it since it’s launch we were expecting a unique food and service experience. We received that but unfortunately not for the reasons the management team would want…
…my initial experience was abysmal. I have never encountered a doorman at a restaurant, and in all my encounters with doormen in venues in general this was appalling. From the aggressive first contact to demanding to conduct a bag check, any sense of a relaxing evening with friends was KO’d. The reaction from the guy dealing with bookings was also poor – he witnessed the whole scenario and didn’t even offer an apology when I expressed my shock at such an awful welcome.
Once seated we were given tatty food menus and two separate drinks menus, all with different branding and aesthetics. The selection was average which at least matched the quality of the food delivered. When you are expecting a venue to deliver a ‘wow’ experience and you are presented with food which quite frankly could have been purchased at Wetherspoons (and delivered with better service) you know you’re in for a long night.
£46 for two average courses, two beers and unengaging service is appalling – I would go for as to say that Katana has delivered my worst dining experience in Peterborough in 15 years of living here.

I recently dined at Katana Peterborough and was completely blown away by the interactive dining experience and the outstanding food. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt special, sleek décor, a lively buzz, and a promise of something more than just a meal.
Our booking included the live teppanyaki table and wow, what a show! The chefs cooked right in front of us: sizzling fried rice, vegetables flipped theatrically, flames dancing, and friendly banter all around. It really made dinner into an event.
As for the food, it was simply fantastic. We started with beautifully presented sushi rolls, then moved to mains that included teriyaki chicken and rib-eye steak cooked at the teppanyaki station. Each dish was full of flavour, perfectly cooked and beautifully plated. The à-la-carte menu shows just what they’re capable of.
Service was friendly and attentive our servers made sure we understood each dish and even helped with chopsticks, which added a personal touch. The whole evening felt celebratory without being over the top. Plus the drinks range (especially the cocktails) matched the food for quality.
In short, if you’re looking for more than just dinner, if you want an engaging dining experience with amazing food and a bit of theatre Katana Peterborough hits the mark. Highly recommended for a fun night out or special celebration.

I was very disappointed with my experience. Having spent £80, I expected a much higher standard of food and service; however, I have had better meals at more mainstream restaurants.
The steak was excessively fatty and lacked quality cuts of meat, not to mention my partner asked for medium steak and was brought out rare at best, pictures have been added. Additionally, the wrong starter was brought to our table, and the rice did not taste fresh. When telling the waitress this was the incorrect starter she proceeded to tell me it wasn’t, I know the difference between a vegetable gyoza and a chicken gyoza, there was no chicken and it was veg and you’re trying to tell me it’s chicken? Come on now! The overall service was also below expectations — the food was simply placed on the table rather than served with the level of care one would anticipate, particularly when a £9 service charge is included. Upon complaining, having worked in hospitality myself the customer should come first and the resolution should be in the customers hands, to be told they will make the meal again given the fact I said we were that disappointed with the food we didn’t want to have to endure another dish here!
Given the price point, either the quality of the food needs to improve significantly or the pricing should be reconsidered, as the experience did not reflect an £80 meal. I am extremely disappointed, especially as we visited based on a friend’s recommendation, and I will absolutely not be returning. What should’ve been an enjoyable valentines meal soon became a disaster.

Very nice and picturesque restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was good and very fresh, though not the best sushi I’ve had. The drinks menu is extensive and we enjoyed the warm Sake selection. Some dishes could benefit from improved technique – the lobster tempura batter was a bit thick and could have been thinner and crispier. Squid was a bit over done for my liking. Overall, a very good experience and a place worth visiting ✨

Overall- Great experience, Good atmosphere, Chicken Sizzlers were good however the one I ordered was not spicy even tho I requested it to be. The Katsu curry was good & sushi was decent. The disappointing part was when we split the bill in 4- each of us had to go to the counter to pay, which is just unexpected for a place like this. Other than that- overall I still had a good time 🙂

Very dissapointed with the experience. As seen on website on Sunday they are offering unlimited sushi and starters for £15. When I came to restaurant I’ve been told that unlimited sushi are for £15pp if you order main dish (which averagely costs £22), if you’re not ordering main dish and want only sushi it will cost you £25pp. Not on the website, not in the menu it doesn’t say anything about it. I was about to leave but was too hungry to look for another place to eat. Unlimited sushi are presented as a buffet. Hmm.. they should be presented. When I’ve attempt to fill up my plate 90% of food was missing. They was not ready to accept customer for this offer, even if it was middle of the day, not end of shift. It took them very long time to fill up the buffet and they filled it up with very small quantity. 8 pcs of each type of sushi. As there was around 5-6 people using the buffet it became empty very quickly. And again long waiting. They state that sushi is unlimited but due to long wait you don’t really want anything as it’s ruining all experience. On top of this all sushi was in some sauce which makes me feel that they’re using not very fresh products. In salmon sushi there was huge peaces of skin (visible on pictures). This is second time when eating sushi in Katana and this happens both times. I have feeling that they are using salmon leftovers for sushi. When I asked for a bill I was waiting for around 20 minutes. They simply forget to bring it. I needed to remind them about myself. I understand if it happens when restaurant is busy, but there was only 3 tables in use (including myself). They’ve also took my details to create a loyalty card for me, but they also forgot about it. A 10% tips are automatically included in bill. They’re not making you aware about it before ordering food. Luckily I was able to remove it as this place doesn’t deserve any tip. They are trying to look like a posh high class place but it’s definitely not worth any penny.

Excellent dining experience with a group of friends. We sat at a hibachi grill and chose various meats and starters. The beef has too much gristle for my American preference but I’ve noticed this is common around the UK. Just my personal preference so I’d choose shrimp or chicken next time. Delicious food and entertaining. Ambiance was great and we could talk and hear one another easily.

Boyfriends surprised me with the Teppanyaki experience at Katana and it was faultless. A fantastic interactive experience and truly delicious food. Our chef was so friendly and personalised experience, because we went during the week the restaurant wasn’t busy so had table all to ourselves! The only slight downside was we had booked the experience for 9.15pm on the website (latest booking supposedly being 9.45pm) and the restaurant closes at 10pm, the restaurant called us a couple hours earlier asking if we could come earlier with no real reason, meaning we had to change our plans unfortunately. So just be mindful of this when booking. Overall experience was fabulous and would definley recommend. The staff even sang me happy birthday several times and put a candle on my dessert! ( we also really enjoyed the mocktails would definitely recommend )

I had an amazing experience at Katana! The food was absolutely delicious – the steak and lamb were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. The cocktails in the bubble rooms were fantastic and made the evening feel even more special. The atmosphere and entertainment added so much to the night, making it a truly memorable dining experience. I would definitely recommend Katana to anyone looking for great food, amazing drinks, and a unique night out!
